Nicole "Wrong Way" Richie Arrested for DUI

Nicole Richie was arrested Monday morning for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol after several 911 callers reported her black Mercedes SUV as traveling the wrong way (I hate when that happens) on State Highway 134. After the celebutante flunked a sobriety test, California Highway Patrol officers took Richie into custody, booked her, tested her for drugs and then released her — at which point Richie walked back into the station house, and the officers wheeled her around and released her again. — MWM

Well, yeah, she's so skinny she would only need a thimble full of alcohol to be over the limit!

PLEASE...do us all a favor...and save the jokes for the late nite professional comedians. They're just not funny coming from "stand-up wannabes" who take jobs as entertainment messengers. It doesn't work.

I hear that, when taking down the vehicle information, the officer wrote stick shift before realizing that he was looking at Nicole.

I agree with you Cindy!

Matt keep the jokes coming, I think they're funny. There's never a day that I can't use a good chuckle.

Ugh, Dane Cook. I don't understand his appeal.

As far as Nicole Richie goes, all I can say is, sigh. When will the insanity with young celebrities end? I hope she was at least wearing underpants when she got arrested.

I wish a brisk wind would lift her away and out of our lives, our newspapers, and Tv Guide. Talk about a waste of time, news, and energy.

Maybe she can take Paris, Lindsay, and Britney with her...barf

Well, first of all, I'd like to say that I am not a fan of Nicole Richie. That aside, she is human, and is undoubtedly humiliated and will not hear the end of this for quite some time. The hoops that the legal system makes one jump through after an event like this are time-consuming and costly, but hardly ever rehabilitating. Promos like "Hear it here first!" on these so-called entertainment shows never fail to nauseate me and instead of enticing me, I turn it off. We have all had too much to drink and drive at some point (especially since the legal limit is so low). Nicole, honey, hire a driver! Even a taxi is far less troublesome. Enough of celebrities being ostrasized who are caught doing what the common person is doing. Don't get me wrong, drinking and driving is the ultimate in irresponsible behavior, but for once offer advice, not criticism and/or jokes.

Whoa! Speak for yourself, Sandy! I doubt anyone who's lost a loved one to a drunk driver thinks any legal limit is low enough!

In my opinion, people in the public eye should be held to account for driving impaired. Maybe if Paris or Nicole or Mel Gibson did a little jail time, it might make others think twice.

Good for you, TV Gord.

Has anyone else ever had a post disappear? I had a post between TrishTheDish and londonbaby earlier, and now it's gone! Now londonbaby's reference to Dane Cook doesn't make any sense. (I had basically said that he isn't funny.)

Being a celebrity must be nice. My friend got a DUI and the cops put him in jail and he couldn't bond out until he was sober. In my opinion It's not the celebrities fault for getting unusually humane treatment. Its the criminal justice system not sharing this with everyone else in similar circumstances. It's not fair at all. I guess my buddy was right when he said all they want is your money, I mean look at O.J.

I was wondering, Chappy Quiddick, about that Dane Cook reference myself. I've laughed harder at the jokes I found in 20 year old copies of Highlights Magazine in my dentist's office than I have at his stuff.

I'm not sure that I completely agree about the legal intoxication limit Gord but I do agree with the rest of your point. I would go so far as to say it doesn't even have to be the loss of a loved one to make one question and condemn the judgement of drunk drivers.

I would think that one of the great privileges of celebrity and wealth would be to be able to get just as inebriated as you want and then be able to pay for a taxi or limo to just about anywhere. You wouldn't have to alter your self-indulgent behavior much at all. And you might live to see 50. So would your potential victims.

But as for giving advice Sandyhome, that wouldn't be very interesting to read would it? Not to mention that it's doubtful that the people who need it would see it here. They've probably heard it from people close to them anyway. Clearly they aren't listening.

And the jokes? It's pretty harmless fun don't you think? It's one thing when one celebrity makes a gratuitous attack on another-like Steven Weber did when he wrote a letter to a newspaper attacking Paris Hilton for no reason at all that I could tell. It's another when a celebrity does or says something stupid or mean and you and I and Matt and the rest of us here have some fun with it. It's not really hurting them and on the slim chance that they do read or hear about what we say it might have a positive influence. Just lecturing them on their behavior probably wouldn't be nearly as effective.
