Gloucester, England-born Simon Pegg (Hot Fuzz) and Harold & Kumar's John Cho are boarding J.J. Abrams' Star Trek feature in the roles of engineering wizard/Romulan-ale enthusiast Montgomery Scott and Lt. Hikaru Sulu, says the Reporter. They join other future Enterprisers Zachary Quinto (as Spock), Zoe Saldana (Uhura) and Anton Yelchin (Chekov), while Eric Bana has been tapped to play the villain.

I know what you're wondering: But who... has... the com? According to the trades, Chris Pine is in talks to play young Kirk. Just My Luck, indeed.

For more discussion of the Star Trek castings, listen to the Oct. 12 TV Guide Talk podcast.

I can't believe Simon Pegg is going to be Scotty! I love him but is this a good idea?? it will either be really amazing or really not.

I am actually shocked. I was certain Paul McGillion, a REAL Scottish actor, would get the part. I don't like it. Time will tell.

What about Sulu? How about James Kyson Lee (Ando, Heroes)

GimplyGump, the role of "Sulu" has already been cast. Multiple news sources are reporting that John Cho (Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle) will be the Enterprise's helmsman for the 2008 epic (and at a reported budget of $160 million, it WILL be an epic!)

I can see him as Scotty. If he shaves and dyes his hair black. Yeah. He could work.

None of the original cast were really from their country so Simon Pegg playing a Scotsman is no big deal.

I LOVE SIMON PEGG. My favorite British sitcom is Spaced and it shows that he's a huge fan of the genre so it should be great fun if it's true.

Paul McGillion would have been the better choice for Scotty. If he was in it I would have gone out of my way to see it. This will be a movie I will avoid.

I would have preferred Paul McGillion as Scotty. I guess Simon Pegg is the bigger name (plus he had a brief role in MI:III so I guess he already worked with JJ Abrams and co.).

James Doohan wasn't a real Scottish actor and you don't hear anyone complaining about that.

Where can I sign a petition to get Paul McGillion reconsidered for the role of Scotty???
Over and above the fact that his Scots accent is excellent (He was born there!)he does bear a resemblance to James Doohan when he was in TOS. I also heard that Doohans son had recommended him for the part.

I guess I am gonna be waiting for this "epic" to come out on video before seeing it.
