Everything Old Is New (Kids) Again
New Kids on the Block by Ron Galella, Ltd./WireImage.com
They're back! 1980s boy band New Kids on the Block is reuniting, and will release a new album and go on tour. The announcement comes 20 years after the Boston-based fivesome scored big with their multi-platinum album, Hanging Tough.
Band member Donnie Wahlberg, 38, told the Boston Herald he was onboard with the reunion when the group decided to write new music. "We absolutely will [also] do the old songs for sure," he added.
Joey McIntyre, brothers Jordan and Jonathan Knight, and Danny Wood round out the quintet, which in its heyday sold 70 million albums before breaking up in 1994. — J.R. Whalen

NYCGirl that was the first thing that popped into my head: "OMG! I feel old!".
I still can't believe that these guys were the first concert I ever went to.

Someone should probably tell these guys that there hasn't been a successful song by a boy band since NSync's last album. Even the Backstreet Boys flopped when they attempted a comeback and they only waited 5 years before reuniting. Their best bet would be turning this little comeback attempt into a VH1 reality show.

BSB's first comeback song "Incomplete" did well, and it's only natural that their two post-comeback albums didn't reach the insane record-breaking heights that they and NSync set during the height of the boyband era. It's a shame their newest album slid backwards toward their teen-pop stuff, since Never Gone was an excellent, more mature pop-rock album.
My wonder is, are they going by their full name or NKOTB? Old Men Back on the Block might be more appropriate. It's definitely been the era for groups reforming, from All Saints and the Spice Girls to the Police. And more so than any of the groups mentioned in my comment here, there's no way NKOTB's original music would sell well today or would be something a bunch of 40-year-old men would want to sing. Will they go in the direction of their recent solo stuff?
(you know it's a slooow Friday morning at work when I put this much thought into this)

Man, I am SOOOOOO glad I still have my oversized pins, dolls, and NKOTB memorabilia... EBay, here I come!
Honestly, I'm psyched
They're playing here tonight in Boston at a small club I used to frequent in my 20's. My sister's best friend growing up is SO excited, she's already waiting outside the club in the rain in hopes of purchasing tickets...lol!
I think they'll do well. For those of us in our late 20's and early 30's who wallpapered their bedrooms (and ceilings!) with pics from Tiger Beat, we've been WISHING for something to bring back the days before car payments, student loans, mortgages, day care, soccer games, marriages, divorce... It's a welcome vacation from the reality of Adulthood!!!

LOL! That was my first thought, Dianora. One of my biggest problems with "boy bands" (other than the usually-cheesy songs) is the fact that their names are generally...well, they're usually cheesy, too; teeny-bopper-friendly, maybe, but quickly outgrown. I can't imagine them wanting to dance and sing the way that they did 20 years ago, either. If they can luck onto some songs like "Incomplete"--I really liked that song, despite having a boy bands bias--then maybe their reunion will work. If not, then Donnie Wahlberg will have to work to shake off the stink and regain his "creditable actor" label.

I'm so with you on that! sad, really; He's a much better actor than his brother, but he never got the props Mark did becuase he's not as cute...his performance in "the sixth sense" still gives me the willies
