NBC's Madonna Concert Might Toss Cross

Reuters reports that NBC might strike Madonna's mock crucifixion when it airs her prime-time concert special in November, depending on what they see when the producers submit their first cut. Says an NBC rep, "Once we've seen [the special] in its entirety, we'll make a decision."

Mind you, NBC Entertainment prez Kevin Reilly told our own Michael Ausiello, when the special was first announced in July, that the "Live to Tell" number "will probably be in the show. We viewed it, and, although Madonna is known for being provocative, we didn't see it as being ultimately inappropriate." Hmm, sounds like a Higher Authority has since stepped in.

This seriously disappoints me. The people who are making a big stink about the 'mock-crucifixion' have not seen it. She is not mocking Jesus or the Christian faith. I will lose any respect for NBC if they do not air that part of the concert ... in fact, I hope Madonna pulls her concert if they chose not to air 'Live to Tell'. If people are really upset with Madonna - they don't have to watch the concert ... there are plenty of other channels they can tune into.

Didn't I read somewhere that she's calling the special itself "Live to Tell"? Obviously she was hedging her bets. Brilliant.

Just curious Madge_Fan, were you equally 'disappointed' with NBC when they would not show the Danish cartoon that caused such a riot with the Muslims because they did not want to "offend" Muslims? Are you equally 'disappointed' that they would choose to air a cartoon that was created as a Christian message yet take out all of the reference to scripture or God? If these other instances do not 'disappoint' you, then I would say you are much like NBC, biased against Christians yet tolerant of everything else. Personally, I will not watch it. I find anything that Madonna does offensive to God, not myself. And because it is offensive to God, it is something I should steer clear of. May the love of our Lord Jesus Christ open your eyes to the spiritual battle here and to all mankinds need for the salvation that can only be found in Christ.

NBC would be wise to cut the offensive crucifixion scene mocking the crucifixion of Jesus.

How anyone could say this is not a mockery of God's plan has no understanding of the basics of Christianity.

I too, will not watch the show, however, impressionable teens may...It is they who we are trying to protect, not to mention God's honor. Yes, Christians can turn it off....but we can also boycott all products advertised on the show. This WILL HAPPEN. NBC cannot pander to the Christian community by showing Veggie Tales while insulting our faith and our God at the same time....it is one or the other.

Christians are dying for some decent programming that does not insult us or is not filled with violence and vulgarity. NBC should produce solid decent programming. Then they will continue to keep their viewers and add a huge target market.

Otherwise, if NBC continues to insult Christians, their advertisers will realize it would be wiser to spend their budget elsewhere.
