NBC Strikes Back with "More Original Programming Than 1Q 2007"

NBC has at long last unveiled its own "strike schedule," and there's little to be surprised by here, as it has been leaked out in drips and drabs over recent weeks. Of note, NBC touts the slate as offering "significantly more hours of original programming than was ever the case in the first quarter of 2007."

The highlights:

• As of Jan. 1, The Biggest Loser returns with new two-hour blocks, followed by SVU.

Celebrity Apprentice airs Thursdays at 9 starting Jan. 3; as of Feb. 7, Lipstick Jungle replaces ER as its lead-out.

American Gladiators debuts Jan. 6 before settling into its Mondays-at-8 slot. It will be followed by Deal or No Deal and Medium.

• Starting Jan. 9, Law & Order: CI (episodes previously aired on USA Network) airs at 9, followed by mother ship Law & Order.

The Baby Borrowers, "a social experiment that puts teen couples on the fast track to adulthood," premieres Feb. 18.

Well, I am not sure where the word "original" came from in the title of this piece (as it's not in the quote in the blog entry)...

...but there is nothing original about two versions of trite reality programming, a celebrity version of a fading reality show, a rehash of a syndicated 80's series and reused cable episodes from the second spin-offs of one of the oldest programs on TV.

Which is good... if this is the best NBC has to offer, they'll be forced to settle the strike soon!

NOTHING on that schedule even remotely interested me.

I stopped watching the original "Law and Order" years ago because they were always self-contained stories with little expanding of characterization on behalf of the leading actors. So it was bascally a formula series that to me belonged in the '60s, along with "Hawaii Five-0" and "The FBI" ("ripped from the headlines" format, notwithstanding).

Hmph... I thought NBC was going to move Friday Night Lights to a higher profile timeslot to take advantage of other networks' lack of originals as FNL will have a couple more episodes than most. :(

The original Law & Order really is returning... I have to admit, I'm surprised. So many episodes, I thought they'd run out of film cans by now...
