NBC Silences Monk (on NBC), Sees No Future for Psych (on NBC)

Mere hours after last night's Nielsens came in, NBC revealed a slate which drops Monk and Psych from the network's Sunday lineup. (The Tony Shalhoub starrer had dropped 28 percent from its previous NBC airing, while Psych didn't even break four million viewers.) Thus ends the Peacock's experiment in repurposing USA Network content.

For the short term, NBC will fill the two-hour block with back-to-back-to-back-to-back Office repeats, starting with "Fun Run" (Parts 1 and 2) and "Dunder-Mifflin Infinity" (Parts 1 and 2).

We are still going to be able to see both shows on USA, aren't we?

Yes.

Maybe if they aired a new episode instead of old ones more people would watch.

Don't DO that to me! I thought you meant the parent company that produces the shows, and they had cancelled the shows on USA. Maybe some sort of disclaimer in the headline?

itsmaddi, I thought the same thing when I read the headline.

OK, fine - headline edited for better clarity.

What did they expect? Did they really think airing a rerun of a show would really bring in the ratings.

I'm so glad for clarification. I thought the shows were cancelled! I was now about to get upset! I know that a lot of fans were wondering since Dr Kroger (Stanley Kamel) died that there might have been a fear about the show. But then I read that Hector Elizondo might be on board. So I was looking forward both shows returning. I'm so glad that they're still on USA. I prefer them there anyway, cause I get to see them over and over if I missed something, and I never get bored of Monk or Psych. The other networks like NBC, ABC and CBS are so unstable and yank shows before you can sink your teeth into them, that I'd prefer to watch USA shows anyday, or Lifetime, or FX. At least these networks give the shows more chances. Look at Burn Notice. I love that show, but I'm sure if it was on one of those 3 networks I named, they'd be gone already, because those producers have no patience with keeping shows and giving them a real chance.

Hmm, maybe because it's 6:20 a.m. and I'm not really awake, I find both the headline and the content of the blog confusing. It still reads like both shows have been canceled.

Can someone explain "repurposing USA Network content"? :)

Many thanks.

Let me see if I can clarify for you MaverickX. NBC has been showing repeats of both these shows on Sunday night. Viewership was low, probably since fans of these shows have already seen them, so NBC pulled them from their schedule. However, the USA network knows a good thing when they see one and both shows will be returning there July 18, for a whole new season.
Repurposing, in this context, means to use in another product. USA being the original "product" and NBC the "product" these two shows were repurposed to.

My dad watches both shows, and he didn't even know NBC was airing them Sunday night. Maybe part of the problem was NBC didn't really advertise it?

Anyway, filling the gap with Office repeats? I'd be down for that, or at least DVRing it.

Hard to believe (or sad) that Office repeats will do any better.
I'd rather see 'Real American Warriors', a reality show where the tough-talkers who took us into the war are suddenly whisked off to a ground level unit in Falusia... and cameras follow their every move for 6 weeks (or is that 6 years? Did they carefully read their contract?).

I never understood the point of playing repeats of those shows on NBC. It just never made sense. You can watch daily repeats of Monk on USA! Both shows offer some of the best entertainment on TV, but I never watched on NBC because I have already seen them. What does George Bush plan the TV scheduling for NBC? That was a retarded thing to do.
