Friday Night's "Hail Mary" May Involve CW, TNT

NBC is looking for someone to huddle with in order to "save" the critically acclaimed (if disappointingly sampled) Friday Night Lights. Confirming that which was reported weeks ago by Ausiello, Variety hears that the Peacock has already had talks with the likes of the CW, E!, G4 and TNT — and next may woo DirecTV — about sharing Friday Night Lights across staggered broadcast windows (à la Law & Order: Criminal Intent, which premieres new stuff on USA, then encores on NBC).

Alas, sources tell the trade that one stumbling block could be NBC's high asking price to share the series. NBC reps had no comment on the report.

I hope that this works out. This is a fantastic show in dire need of audience... and the CW is a network in dire need of a fantastic show.

Maybe NBC should lower the price - after all, it can't be that expensive to produce, can it? It's shot completely in Texas.

If NBC really wanted to keep the show on the air, then they would lower the price. This is just Ben Silverman putting on a show, so when he does cancel it he can say, "We did everything we could to save the show." When the truth of the matter is, that if they were truly committed to keeping the show on the air then they would keep it on NBC!!!X-(

My son and I both watch this show, I think it would do better on cable or the CW. I actually watch Law and Order more since it's been on cable, I don't know why I just do.

If they want to do that, why wouldn't they just do the same thing they did with L&O and put the show on one of their own networks, like USA?

I find it really surprising that they've talked to the CW about it. I can't imagine how that would work with two of the broadcast networks sharing a show.

I agree with most of the other comments. If NBC really wanted to save this show (or rather, if Ben wanted to), they would either keep it on NBC- once again I ask you to remember the days when networks kept on quality shows, even if they didn't get huge ratings- or they would share it with their own family- USA. If not, don't ask for such a high price, especially when going to the CW or cable channels. I believe this is just another ploy or show to dangle in front of the viewers when in actuality, he just wants to get rid of it.

I think it should stay right where it is, if it moves again in it's 3rd season, it would loose even more viewers. I was talking to a friend of mine the other day, she told me the reason she stopped watching it wasn't because she didn't like it, but because the way NBC pushed it around all the time, she couldn't keep up (with the hiatus and then the move to Fridays this season). However, since that's probably not going to happen, I always thought USA would be the best fit.

But hey, what do I know? I only watch TV, not produce it...

Come on CW! Earn my love! I've hated you ever since you didn't pick up Everwood for inaugural season and none of your new crap since (and I'll probably get ragged on for this but that includes Gossip Girl, which I don't find bad as much as boring) has done anything to bring me in.

FNL!

The bottom line for me is, wherever it goes, I'll find it. I don't care what network it's on. I think if someone is truly a fan of the show, that would be the attitude. Personally, I can't imagine abandoning one of my favorite shows because the network screwed with the schedule, and that applies time day, time, and/or network. (Thank goodness for TiVo...)

..."once again I ask you to remember the days when networks kept on quality shows, even if they didn't get huge ratings..."

When did this occur? I can remember a handful of shows that this happened for, but I don't remember any specific time that this occurred consistently.

I completely agree with BlueDahlia77. This is just Ben Silverman pretending to do "whatever" to save this fantastic show. It's bull is what it is. He should be trying to sell it to a Network at a lower price because it isn't a big-budget show. What, you wnat more money than you give the production people from another Network to share the series? That's just outrageous! You're not trying to save the show, you're trying to kill it. What a LOUSE!

I would love it if another network picked it up, NBC used to be the network to watch great television, i.e. the era of The West Wing. Their focus used to be on quality shows that didn't go for the overused story lines or the cheap laughs, and with only a few exceptions left on the Peacock, it is no wonder they have experienced such a slump in the network battle.

Friday Night Lights is a fantastic hour of television, it deals with issues that real people can relate to, and it is the answer to what network television has been lacking in recent years.

If this JERK Ben Silverman thinks this show is so bad and wants to cancel it, why ask so much for it? Let it go! You don't want the best show on TV everyone should be watching but you won't give it the proper ads!

A cable deal would be great if it could keep this awesome show on the air. I would follow it that's for sure. From what I've read elsewhere I don't think BS (great initials by the way) really wants to keep this show on the air, & concur with others on this post that he's just going through the motions before he cancels it.

The only thing I hate about moving to another network is a show can die a long and painful death. :(

DirecTV is the absolute worst possible choice. Just look at what happened to Passions.

I'm surprised they are shopping it around instead of putting it on USA or Bravo.
