Deadwood's Ian McShane will play King Silas in Kings, a new series inspired by the story of King David (Aussie actor Christopher Egan) and reportedly a lock for NBC's 2008-09 slate. Sources tell the Reporter that the Peacock on Wednesday will also announce series pickups for Knight Rider, the Christian Slater spy drama My Worst Enemy and The Philanthropist, which centers on a billionaire who sets out to help others.

It is hoped that NBC will also confirm the rumored DirecTV pickup of Friday Night Lights. The Wednesday upfronts reveal is the earliest in the network's history, and at least six weeks ahead of the standard May fanfare. As long as it's bringing us more series news, faster, I'm all for it. What about the remake of Robinson Crusoe and the US version of Kath and Kim? I thought that was getting picked up for sure?

I wonder how many times Ian McShane is going to get away with say his famous single word from Deadwood on NBC? He is too big for network tv. He belongs on cable where his performances can shines.

Just another sign that the Deadwood wrap-up movies are truly dead. (Insert McShane's signature insult here!)

Maybe when the new Knight Rider drops a burger on K.I.T.T.'s floor, Michael Knight will be there to scoop it up!

Good to see Mr. McShane back on the screen - though I sorely miss Deadwood. I am also interested in the fact that this is a period piece. There are so few deviations from the standard fare of police/layer/doctor dramas I am also excited by something new.

I still can't believe Knight Rider is getting put on the air. It was the biggest piece of garbage I have seen in a long time. I think they believe it will be popular because it got decent ratings. I think the only reason that happened is that there was nothing else new on and a lot of folks were curious.

Let's see how many people watch it once it is competing with other first run fare.

As two Friday Night Lights surviving - I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Why in the name of all things tv would NBC pick up the disaster that was Knight Rider?? I watch the pilot movie, and it was awful!

Here's to hoping Friday Night Lights really will return. If Knight Rider's taking the Friday at 9 spot, where do you think they'll put FNL?

Oh, and the earlier the upfronts the better. Without (don't know if this is true or not) all the celeb extravagance, maybe the networks can add more money to their news division budgets.

Suggested dialogue for Ian McShane's new series: "I'm King Silas, *#@!#%-ers!!"

I watched Ian McShane years ago in the BBC show Lovejoy... very dissimilar to Al "C*&^sucker" Swearengen. That was a silly, fun piece of fluff and I was surprised by the difference he brought to the Deadwood role. Shows he can play characters with gravitas.
