I think Maggie is a great choice for The Dark Knight. Katie seemed way too young as a love interest for Christian Bale.

Tintin is coming to the movie screen! I remember reading his comics in Children's Digest in the late '70s. I also watched a documentary on his creator Herge on PBS last year. Hope Spielberg gets it right!

Anyone is better than Katie Holmes. She is a terrible actress! She was the only bad thing about the first one! Maggie G. is good in everything she does.

Wow. What suprises me even more than the casting change itself is that they're including the character again. I thought she was going to be like most batman love interests--a one movie deal, to be barely referenced again. Especially because they weren't together at the end of the last movie. Great casting choice too.

Crap. Out of the frying pan, into the fire. There are very few actresses I think are more icky than Holmes, but give it to the Batman producers, they found her. And I was so happy to hear Tom wouldn't let Katie do the movie too. Crap.
What is it with superhero movies picking the worst leading ladies? First Spiderman, then Batman, then Superman, now Batman again. Crap.

When I read the last name in the title, on the main page, I first thought they meant Jake; and I thought, "That's....weird. How could Jake replace...Oooooh" But I got a chuckle out of the scenario of them going the other way. But then I wondered why they even bothered to bring the character back, especially if they needed to recast it? Batman isn't about the love, he's all about the closing himself off and keeping his distance from love...or people in general. More than that, the public image he's created of Bruce Wayne has been that of a careless playboy, likened to a male Paris Hilton, one could say; and a regular romance hardly fits into that persona. Maybe the character will die at the end of the movie and drive Bruce to fight that much harder and keep people even more at a distance.

Lol, stargazer! I thought the same thing. "Brokeback Batman? Are they kidding?!" But then I realized they meant Maggie and of course, not Jake.
I love it! She is one of the finest young actresses out there and I know she will bring a lot to an already stellar cast. I was hoping they would ditch Rachel Dawes all together and add in Talia but there's always the possibility that Rachel is Talia.

This might sound harsh, but Maggie Gyllenhaal? Are you kidding me? She's one of the last people I would think of as a Batman love interest, she's average looking at best. This is like casting Kelly Osborne as a Bond girl. Acting skills, which Maggie has, aren't the primary need for a Batman love interest and never have been. I just can't picture her in this kind of movie. Way to kill the franchise again.

xanana, are you high? Maggie Gyllenhaal is one of the finest young actresses out there! She's more age appropriate for the part of an ADA. She'll give Rachel an edge. Looking forward to her scenes with Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent. Plus, think of the potential spanking scenes with Batman! And of course, she can confront the Joker (Heath Ledger) as "the bastard who f*cked my brother!"

I like Maggie but I don't think she and Christian Bale "fit" well together.

I like Maggie Gyllenhaal as an actress, but I also don't feel that she is a good fit for Christian Bale or Batman.
Some choices for a love interest that would have appealed to me would be: Rachael Weiss Rachael McAdams Liv Tyler Claire Danes or even Kristin Bell.
All of them sweet, talented, and gorgeous.

I think casting Maggie Gyllenhaal was a great idea! My only question is, why are they casting her in the role of Rachel Dawes, why not create a new leading lady role for her? It's been done before in movies....

findmebaby.com - I had thought Rachel McAdams would be great for the Rachel Dawes role too. However, Gyllenhaal's archness will be the perfect the perfect foil for Bale's intensity. I am excited about what she can do with the role. I don't usually like this kind of movie, but loved the first one.

Supposedly, he was one of the contenders for Harvey Dent/Two-Face. That would have been strange, though, to see the Brokeback boys together again in this!

I think it's good to have some continuity in the love interest area (which, as you point out, the previous Batman movies didn't).
A movie series suffers if every installment is too much of a clean slate, with a bunch of new characters who need to be introduced and explained.
I felt Katie Holmes was clearly the weak link in Batman Begins, and am not at all surprised that she isn't returning.
I think Maggie Gyllenhaal will be an improvement.
In general, I liked Begins, but got kind of bored by all that Bruce-Wayne-in-Tibet stuff.
This movie will be a more typical Batman story, and I think it's going to be fantastic.
The only concern I have: Reports that The Joker will not have a traditional look. If that's true, big mistake.
Burton tried a non-traditional Penguin in Batman Returns, and we know how well that worked out.
However, I trust Christopher Nolan to do this right, and hopefully those rumors are exaggerated (or completely untrue).
