Moonlight Fans Launch a Bloody-good Campaign

Fans of CBS' Moonlight have partnered with the Red Cross to mobilize the show's viewers to donate blood as a show of support for the vampire series that (still) is awaiting a second-season renewal. YouChoose.net, a hub for the effort, claims more than 4,000 pledges to donate a pint of blood have been received to date.

Moonlight returns to the CBS schedule on April 25 with four new episodes in the hopper. Ratings indicate that the Alex O'Loughlin-starrer has nothing to lose sleep over, but nonetheless, fans hope the blood drive seals the deal.

O'Loughlin is very much onboard with the fans' actions, and reportedly is thisclose to being announced as a Red Cross spokesman. — J.R. Whalen

Our Returning Favorites Guide has preview for Moonlight and more than 40 other shows.

I don't watch the show (I tried for the first two episodes and couldn't keep my attention from wandering), but this is a really cool campaign. I've always wondered that the heck happens to the nuts or tabasco bottles that get sent in during "renew our show" campaigns - even if it works, it seems like such a waste of products (can you really donate bottles of tabasco to a local food pantry?). But this lets fans speak up AND benefits a great cause.

This and the Men in Trees plant-a-tree campaign really are great ideas. The Jericho peanuts went to food banks, but really, blood donation is sooo much better.

This is a great idea. I wish I could help, but you have to weigh a certain amount to donate and I don't. (i'm only 5')

I think the Blood drive campaign for Moonlight is outstanding. The coordinators deserve our thanks for creating an effort that Moonlight fans and anyone else who is interested can really support.

I don't like the idea of sending food and other items to the networks to gain their attention. I think those ideas have been done before, and are not very effective. They can also be annoying to the people who have to handle that stuff, depending on what item has been sent by fans.

Alex would make a wonderful spokesman for the Red Cross, and bring extra attention to that organization, and help bring even more fans to the show Moonlight.

Kudos to the folks who coordinated this effort. We are a loyal and supportive fan base for Moonlight, and I will support ideas like this that are well thought out and will benefit many.

4/18/08 for a repeat episode, 4/25/08 to begin the next four new episodes, and then on to season two !!

WAY TO GO MOONLIGHT FANS!!!! This is a wonderful way to support the show AND it's certainly for a worthwhile cause. If this doesn't make CBS renew the show, I don't know WHAT will.

It is a great idea, pairing a wonderful service with the theme of a beloved television show. Fans spin alot of wheels trying to show support for a program; this isn't wheel-spinning. This is a public service. Moonlight fans, and CBS, should be proud.

OMG - this is SO cool.....I've been a blood donor for some *cough* 30-odd years now so I'm all over this idea. Donating blood is always a good thing but to spur CBS to renew SUCH a good show is above and beyond! I sure hope it works...sure I like to see Alex but I ALSO tune in for Sophia...wouldn't mind biting HER neck....;)

Go "Moonlight"fans!

What a brilliant idea! Way to go Moonlight fans! Especially this time of year when the blood banks are low.

What options are there for fans who want to show their support but aren't allowed to donate blood?
