Moonlight Is Still Dead — What's Next?

080624moonlight.jpg
Alex O'Loughlin and Sophia Myles in Moonlight by Eric McCandless/CBS
Not to beat a dead vampire, but despite all the last-ditch efforts — by the CW, TNT, DirecTV — Moonlight is actually dead, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Their source says the sets have been dismantled, and the show's soundstage will soon be occupied by Simon Baker's new drama The Mentalist.

Although I wasn't a regular viewer of Moonlight, I am sad for its passing, since it's nice when a show generates such a devoted fan base. Let's all look toward the future though. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, star of the recently canceled New Amsterdam, has already landed a new pilot at Fox. Where will you like to see Moonlight stars Alex O'Loughlin, Sophia Myles and Jason Dohring show up next?

A Dohring-Kristen Bell reunion on Heroes seems inevitable. Myles might make a dangerous addition to Mad Men's stable of lethal beauties. And call me crazy, but when I see O'Loughlin, I immediately think: "Widmore henchman" on Lost. Got any other ideas? — Mickey O'Connor

Jason D. should become Ryan on Brothers & Sisters. Ryan is supposed to stir up trouble, Jason has proven he can do that quite well on Veronica Mars.

This was the best new show in a long time to come along. The last show aired started to take it in so many new directions. The characters were developing nicely and a new threat was upon them. I DVR'd all the episodes so I can still watch them until (and hopefully) they are put out on DVD. If they can DVD The Bionic Woman this should be a no-brainer with this show's fan base. RIP. I'll be watching for the stars to show up on other shows, they deserve it.

I say we storm the offices of CBS's head honchos with torches and pitchforks...too extreme? :)

Note to casting directors: I started watching Moonlight for Jason Dohring, and stayed for Alex O'Loughlin and the love story between Mick and Beth, and the show was only made better by the addition of Joshua Blue's endearing geek vamp. Hopefully, wherever they all end up, they're on shows that I can stand to watch, or can get.

Greetings and thanks for reporting our 2nd or is it our 3rd demise, I've stopped counting. I believe we've been staked etc. several times now. I hope you all don't mind if I continue campaigning heck if we can't get the series back I'll shoot for a movie or a mini-series. This show was way too enjoyable to be let go just because people want me too. Hope to hear from you again the next time we hear we're dead :)

I'm very sad to see Moonlighting go. It was a good show. But the thought of O'Loughlin on Lost gives me heart palpatations - in a good way!

I'd love to see a Dohring/Bell episode of Heroes.

monkey65 - everything you said about why you watched Moonlight - ditto for me! I miss this show, and plan on buying the DVD when it comes out (it better) which I never do.

Jason Dohring on Brothers and Sisters as Ryan would be soooo awesome. I also would like to see him on Heroes - he can bring Elle to the good side - or they can go really dark together (that would be much better than the dumb bro and sis storyline from last season).

Any and all on LOST would be fun! It's an island that can move - can't we add vamps to the list? hehe

I personally want to see Alex on a new show where he is the lead character. He is way too talented to be a "Henchman" on Lost though he would look good in any show he was in. This would not stretch is acting skills but would be a step back. From a lead in his own show to a nameless character in another. No way. I am so sad to see Moonlight go. it was my favorite show and I am not giving up on it being seen somewhere else. I could however, totally see Jason on Brothers and Sisters as Ryan, a troublemaker as that is what he does very well. (e.g. Logan on Veronica Mars).

I will not quit "the good fight" for Moonlight, not yet! There is so much more story to be told - perhaps a movie or miniseries?

I do wish the stars much success in their future endeavors, and will be proud to say "I knew them when..." but seeing our beloved vampires and lady in anything on television besides Moonlight just seems wrong!

So that's it, huh? Good-bye my darling, my dearly departed show of shows.

I agree with SonjaMMK. Alex is most definitely a lead. And although it would be swell to see him on Lost, there would not be enough Alex screentime. He's one of those fellows that I've got to see alotalotalot and the relative paltriness of screentime on Lost would not match the perfection that is Alex.

My druthers? I would kil...umm, maim to see Alex in another romantic role. The guy is tailor-made for this -- all the talent, grace and beauty of Cary Grant, plus the bonus that Alex is living and breathing. :-x ;)There is a definite dearth of romance (and I mean real romance not whatever's passing for it nowadays) on television and Moonlight's death leaves a huge, gaping hole both on the tube and in my heart. Guess I'll have to get all of my romance fix with Pam and Jim now. Not that I'm complaining, mind you, but I will definitely miss the total hottitude between Alex and Sophia. :_|

I can't think of a permanent role that would suit Alex well right now off of the top of my head, but for a guest starring role, I'd love to see him on Burn Notice. I think he and Jeffrey Donovan would act really well opposite each other. Hopefully he (and the others) find new roles soon, as I really will miss seeing him on my television screen.

Ack! Rereading my post, I realized that I called David Blue "Joshua"! I keep doing that, and I'm not sure why. Sorry, David; I promise that I really am a fan of yours, even if I can't seem to keep your name straight.

A unique and entertaining show in the perfect time slot with a loyal fan base. We should have known it would be cancelled. Why would networks that should kill for it's numbers not pick it up? Did we all miss something? Oh well, I hope all the fine actors get work on projects that will succeed in the future. Good luck Mick, Beth and Josef, We Hardly Knew Ye.

I actually think Alex O'Loughlin would be more interesting on "Brothers & Sisters" -- maybe not as Ryan, but perhaps as a love interest for Sarah. Jason Dohring I'd like to see working his comic chops, maybe as a friend of Daniel's on "Ugly Betty." Sophia Myles is so gorgeous and terrific that she could go virtually anywhere; how about a visit to "Grey's Anatomy," so she can mix it up with McSteamy?
