Model Citizen Again Tops AFI's Best-films List
|
Yes, once again the boring and totally self involved Citizen Kane was on top. I wouldn't even have it in the top 100. I know it's a film makers movie - but I and many people I know found it to be too long in the opening exposition and too full of Orson Wells for his own sake. I could agree with all the other top 10 - I never will with that one.

Someone please explain how The Searchers, Raging Bull, Vertigo, and City Lights got so much better in the last 10 years...? What did they do - - colorize them?! So, the two most Oscar-rewarded films in history, Titanic and Ben-Hur, come in at 83 and 100....ridiculous. I would appreciate it if someone who actually watched the show (not me) could explain how they explained the large swings in the results. I thought the only changes would be where they inserted newer movies; never thought they'd do a total re-vote with a different group of old-timers (which is how it looks).

Here is there top ten:
1 CITIZEN KANE 2 THE GODFATHER 3 CASABLANCA 4 RAGING BULL 5 SINGIN' IN THE RAIN 6 GONE WITH THE WIND 7 LAWRENCE OF ARABIA 8 SCHINDLER'S LIST 9 VERTIGO 10 THE WIZARD OF OZ
The movies haven't changed - but voters might have. They are given 400 films to vote on - not every movie ever made and new ones are added each year. Hence the changes. These are also only American movies. I enjoy the show - but I love movies.

"So, the two most Oscar-rewarded films in history, Titanic and Ben-Hur, come in at 83 and 100....ridiculous."
Oh I'm sure Oscar really means the film is the best ever. Tell that to Brokeback Mountain and Saving Private Ryan.
And as for Citizen Kane, I can see how others might see it as overrated, but I think that whatever #1 movie they pick SOMEONE, ANYONE, will say it's overrated. And I only say it two years ago and before that people were shocked and even dismayed that I hadn't yet seen it. And I hate when people do that so I was set on hating the movie before seeing it. So I saw it and loved it. Go figure.
