« Today's News: Our Take
Miley's New Identity, Teen Gladiators and More
Miley and Billy Ray Cyrus by Jordan Strauss/ WireImage.com
Despite already having two identities, teen phenom Miley Cyrus has legally changed her name, according to ET. The artists formerly known as Miley Cyrus will now be known as Miley Ray Cyrus (sound familiar?).... NBC's American Gladiators is doing so well that it's already set to expand to 90 minutes for two eps. Now, The Hollywood Reporter says, it will be enjoying a companion spin-off in the form of Gladiators 2000, a mid-'90s series featuring teen contestants that was hosted by none other than a young Ryan Seacrest (albeit pre-hair highlights).... Starz has greenlit a TV adaptation of Crash, which will be the network's first original series. The film's director, Paul Haggis, will be back to cowrite and produce, along with Don Cheadle and Bobby Moresco, among others. Let's just hope it fares better than, say, a certain Irish mob drama. — Anna Dimond

How greedy can you get, using dad's middle name, more $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ in her pocket.

Why doesn't she just use her REAL first name, which is Destiny? Miley is short for Smiley, a nickname because she smiled so much when she was little.

mrmeowspa, how is her using her dad's middle name greedy on her part? She's the one currently selling millions of concert tickets, CDs and Hannah Montana merchandise. Billy Ray is seeing a resurgence of his career, but Miley hardly needs his name to earn money.
I like her birth name--Destiny Hope--and don't see why she couldn't keep using "Miley" as her stage name. Oh well, it's not my call.

WHAT??? Miley will not make MORE money adding Ray to her name..she is the bread winner in that family now, and if anything, Billy Ray is now riding her coattails, attempting his new record/concert comeback..

I look at it this way: Unlike other actors her age she hasn't a boob job, she's not dating one of Paris Hilton's exes and she hasn't been ticketed for drunk driving and/or speeding. If this is the worst that can be said about this kid I think she's doing alright...

Eh - when they perform together (and that seems to be something they are trying to do more of...?) they can announce them as "Miley and Billy Ray Cyrus".
Also - while Destiny is a pretty name, she's already solidified her career using Miley. Plus, if she got used to using that nickname while growing up, she may just feel more comfortable in it than she does with Destiny. 'Miley' has a very friendly and comfortable feel to it, and I think that fits the persona she presents (and most likely her true personality as well).

Off the topic, but does Billy Ray ever wash his hair? It always looks so greasy or am I just too old to realize that's the "in" thing.
Name-wise for Miley Ray Cyrus, smooth move. Daddy knows what he's doing for sure.

She chose her nickname over her birth name way back when she told her first teachers to call her Miley. I don't see what's the big deal about making it legal. I imagine it would make things easier.

You left out a crucial part of the story. Miley was chistened/baptised "Destiny Hope," but her Dad, Billy Ray, nicknamed her "Miley". She didn't legally go from "Miley" to "Miley Ray," but from "Destiny Hope" to "Miley Ray."

So she wants to honor her father by making his middle name her middle name.
And that's greedy?
HUH?

Destiny Hope is about as trailer trash as it gets. Miley Ray is better, but not by much. She has always been called Miley so I think it makes perfect sense to legally change her name. Why not use Ray for her Dad? People name their kids after themselves all the time. She's very close to her father. I think it's cute.
