Are you ready for some football 'tween pop? Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour delivered the biggest payday of any film (Titanic included!) playing over Super Bowl weekend, grossing $29 million on just 683 screens. As a result, Disney is extending the film's one-week run. (Sorry, moms and dads. Hey, maybe Penny's folks can drive next weekend...?)

Hannah Montana also claimed the highest opening for a film playing on fewer than 1,000 screens, trumping the $26.4 mil collected by Borat.

Playing also-ran to Hannah Montana was Jessica Alba's The Eye, which opened with $13 million. Rounding out the weekend's top five were 27 Dresses ($8.4 mil), Juno ($7.4 mil) and last week's champ Meet the Spartans ($7.1 mil).

Among other new releases, Eva Longoria Parker's Over Her Dead Body was practically DOA, coming in at No. 11 with a scant $4.6 mil.

What's your take on Best of Both Worlds, those who hunted down a ticket?

A for completion.
C for content and originality.
Overall test grade - B.

What happened here? I posted this in response to an entry called "Test" and it ended up here. Interesting. Accept my apologies, please.

Hi Matt!

You got something mixed up here.

The Bruce Willis/Halle Berry thriller you are referring to is called "Perfect Stranger". The movie opened in April of 2007. Nowhere near SuperBowl.

The movie that holds that record is indeed "When A Stranger Calls". But that is the remake of a 1979 horror film of the same name, starring Camilla Belle.

Yeah, I am glad you pointed that out, because that was the same thing I was going to comment on. Knowing this only because the Bruce Willis flick I thought to be awful. Whereas, I did enjoy the couple of jumps from the remake of When a Stranger Calls.

Couldn't stand When a Stranger Calls. Nothing good about that movie at all. Nothing. It failed in every aspect.

The When a Stranger Calls mention has since been edited out, with the arrival of final numbers. - MWM

I can't believe Over Her Dead Movie, er I mean Body, made even that much. I wonder how many of those tickets were sold because all the other flix at the 'plex were sold out?

I heard on the radio all tickets to the Hannah Montana concert in theaters were $16 for adults and children, so the box office revenue isn't really an accurate measurement of how many people actually went to see the movie in comparison to other movies.

And honestly, I expected it to make a lot more. Believe it or not, there are a lot of people who don't give a hoot about the Superbowl and do actually go about their lives during Superbowl weekend.

I just don't understand what the fascination with this girl is. Sure, she's sweet, but I don't think she has an amazing voice; certainly not one that warrants such a huge obsession. I understand the whole 'tween' audience, but when I saw Juno this weekend, there were 20something year old girls waiting in line....I don't get it?

I took my 9-year-old daughter and her friend on Friday night - sold-out - we had to sit in the 2nd row. The manager came in and told everyone to scream and yell and get-up and dance just like a concert -- and they did. You never heard so much shrieking (especially over one of the Jonas Bros in particular).

What struck me was the number of older teens who were there - even some groups of guys by themselves. Keep an eye on your little girls moms & dads.

" As a result, Disney is extending the film's one-week run. "

I think Disney planned on "extending" the run anyway. It was an awesome marketing ploy. You only have one week to see this, so act immediately. There is no way that TPTB at Disney could not have realized that this movie was going to do so well. Like it or not, Hannah Montana is a major sensation for the tween & pretween crowd.

And yes, at $15 a ticket (I paid for 3!)makes the numbers slightly slanted, but there are less screens showing it than most movies.

Form the Fandango press release in my email this morning:

"Hannah" is Fandango’s top advance ticket-seller for a February opening (the previous record-holder was 2004’s "The Passion of The Christ").

So I guess Miley Cyrus is bigger than Jesus.
