Is Miley Pulling a (Milder) Vanessa Hudgens?

Squeaky-clean teen phenom Miley Cyrus may have just sullied her innocent image thanks to pictures of her in bikinis and underwear — the most racy of which, it should be noted, is of her in briefs, pulling up her tank top — leaked on the Web. While Cyrus has yet to confirm whether the photos are, in fact, hers, the pics are spreading, especially in the post-Vanessa Hudgens era.

If the photos are of Cyrus, would they change the public's — and especially young fans' — view of her? Are episodes like this one and the Hudgens controversy a rare scenario reserved only for stars with private lives suddenly exposed, or are they simply examples of what every teenage girl puts on her MySpace page (except without the world watching)? And if they were boys (think Zac Efron in surf trunks), would the public reaction be similar? Let us know what you think. — Anna Dimond

I'm sorry, do these people never go to the beach? No one's ever seen a 14 year old (or is she 15) in a bathing suit before? Why is this a big deal? Why is this even news worthy? The only one that's even remotely "racy" is the one where she's pulling her top part way up and it's the picture that she's the most covered up in.

Silly.

I'd say the only real problem is that she keeps posing with that stupid expression on her face. She should lose her fans and career just for that. ]<img border=">

I really do not understand the big deal here. Compared to what I've seen on the beaches of California and Hawaii--these are almost Amish in comparison. Matter of fact, it is refreshing to see something tame. Not everyone is Britney Spears. Sheesh, give it a rest!!

I don't know why people are freaking out, she's a teenager having fun with her friends. She was in a swimsuit, it's no big deal

This "news" is pretty funny. I don't even think these photos would be racy in 1950.

First of all that is not really miley cyrus come on people you can't believe everything you read about plus if you look miley cyrus up you'll see that whoever it is lives in piedmont and i'm pretty sure miley cyrus doesn't live there because i live in piedmont

Šarclyte, I agree. That pose is pretty annoying. It's probably the worst attempt at being sexy I've ever seen and that just makes the picture even funnier. :^O

I'm sorry, but if anyone looks to this girl as a role model, they need help.

IT DOESN'T MATTER that she's not "really showing anything" or "has clothes on" because it's her attitude that sucks. She (and whoever is guiding her into these situations) is constantly trying to push the edge of what is acceptable and it is only a matter of time before some kind of substance abuse or instead some behavior not unlike Britney Spears surfaces, which would be much more damaging to young ladies than "a valuable life lesson."

She's not learning HER OWN lessons, let alone those of her colleague, which speaks to her parents as well.

In addition to those points, I'll make the following one:

Those children (and their guardians) that make such money off of the IMAGE they portray to young children should not expect to live a "normal life" of such high profile mistakes and missteps that a child without those privileges would be afforded. Yeah, that's right...you make that kind of money and it's your responsibility to make sure you behave in a manner exactly consistent with that behavior. I feel the same way about adult actors and athletes.

If you make your money based on being a "good girl" or a "wholesome young man" then you have to act the part or forfeit the funds.

I hope she gets caught with her pants down, figuratively and actually, just to prove to people that this type of attitude being marketed is an indicator of more serious behavior to come...otherwise those loud but nonsubstantial voices that claim people like me are making a "big deal out of nothing" will make the same dumb mistakes themselves or with their children and then beg for mercy, for help, and for tax dollars.

Ditto to the comment about Piedmont. I never thought of TV Guide as a tabloid before, but please check your facts...the myspace page that the pic appears on is from South Carolina. Yes, it claims to be the real Miley Cyrus fan page, but there are literally 500 myspace pages that claim to be the real Miley Cyrus or a look-a-like. I do think that she is a good role model and finally a star that is not getting bad publicity-- so, why make up bad stuff on her. From everything that she has said in her interviews, she is a good Christian role model for girls...my daughter was thrilled when Miley quoted her favorite Bible verse on Oprah. As for a bikini, I have seen plenty of other good Christian girls wear them, including myself when I was that age. Personally, I am taking my 8 year old daughter to see the 3D concert when it opens up on Friday.

I have not seen the photos, and have no plans to look them up. This young woman is under age 18, and those photos (if it is Miley or not), should not be posted on the internet at all. This is one of the biggest problems with MySpace, FaceBook, and the similar Teen Web sites. It would be understandable if a 14 year old girl wanted to share some photos with her 14 year old friends or a 14 year old boy...but unfortunately, these web sites do not screen out adults. Even a 16 or 17 year old boy should not be receiving or viewing these kind of photos of a 14 year old child. Just a few years can be a huge age difference when you are that young.

Miley Cyrus is still a child, and we are not doing enough to protect children on the internet. Brittney Spears is an adult, and only needs to be protected from herself. If Brittney wanted to pose for Playboy magazine, she would have every right to do so...but Miley and her fans are still children, and need to be protected.

And protecting teenage boys from predators is just as important as protecting these teen girls. We need better protection on the internet for children, and of course parents need to be involved with what their children view and post on the web.

We need to examine the bigger issues involved...not the teen singer’s fan image.

This is getting ridiculous. I have seen racier stuff in Sears catalogs. Jeez. So what. She is posing in her bathing suit and acting silly in some other photos. Can't she act like a teen every once in a while? This is not even close to Vanessa H category or Britney Spears. So, I just don't see anything wrong here.
