Michelle Williams: Heath Was "Vulnerable"

Michelle Williams and others are beginning to open up about how they remember Heath Ledger — as a friend, partner and colleague.

In the April issue of Interview, Williams divulges how she views Ledger, and acknowledges that it's just now that some are seeing him the same way. "The interesting thing about Heath, which maybe people have only really fully discovered in his death, is how vulnerable he was," she says. "You can pick up on it in his performances, but it's easy to overlook because he was so physical and beautiful and strong and masculine. But there was always that underlying sensitivity. That's who he was."

Among the others offering their thoughts on the late actor's life is Naomi Watts, who recalls Ledger as "a huge, obsessive, chess freak — and very, very good at it." Philip Seymour Hoffman reinforced that point, saying, "Whenever Heath talked about something he liked... he wasn't somebody trying to cover up his excitement."

Finally, it seems, stars are speaking to how I, as a spectator only, saw Ledger. Do you agree with them? — Anna Dimond

It's really nice that we're getting some informed positive views of Heath and who he really was. Thank you for the story!

I only saw him a few times on TV but I did see him interviewed along with Mihelle on Oprah while Brokeback was in theaters. Also there on stage was Jake G.

I sensed some fragility in his personality (not negatively) because when he spoke about and looked at Michelle you could just feel it. He seemed so sincere and when he mentioned his daughter it was sweet. He always seemed to be on the verge of tears.

I thought he was too sensitive for the business he was in. He was handsome and he will be missed.

Do you agree with them?

Well, considering they actually knew the man, I'm going to take their word for it. Why should there be any debate around it at all? Just strikes me as odd. And considering Williams and Watts both had long-term relationships with Ledger, they're more than just "stars" commenting.

Anyway, the article should be interesting. It's all very sad and still hard to believe.
