Mother Boss: "We Can't Wait for You to Meet Britney!"

And now, a word (or 42) from How I Met Your Mother cocreator Craig Thomas on the week's biggest TV headline, Britney Spears' upcoming visit to the CBS sitcom. "We're thrilled to have Britney Spears on the show," Thomas raves. "Britney is an exciting new talent and we can't wait for the world to meet her. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go check out this 'Internet' thing everyone's talking about."

Before Thomas stole away to the nearest Atari 800 and dial-up modem, however, he also weighed in on the casting of Scrubs' cutie Sarah Chalke as Ted's dermy doc, Stella. "We couldn't be happier to have Sarah Chalke joining us," he says. "Not only is Sarah smart, funny and charming, but we already know she looks damn good in a labcoat." True dat!

So, what's your latest thinking? Too much ado about guest-casting? Or is the Britney-Sarah tag team just the buzz-builder the show needs to climb off the renewal bubble once and for all?

I think this is all much ado about nothing.

I love HIMYM but after giving away over 30 Season 1 DVDs to friends I’ve come to the conclusion that most people just aren’t going to “get it”. The time shifting in particular seems to be a “love it or hate it” kind of thing. It does require you to actually pay attention and use some cognitive thought.

Which brings us to Britney…I very much doubt the Britney crowd are going to get HIMYM. The show might get a small bump out of this but its meaningless.

If anything, given the rather lack luster Season 3 they’ve been having this’ll more likely drive people away than it will draw people in.

BS? Seriously? I have loved HIMYM since day one, but this seems suspiciously like jumping the shark to me.

BTW, logging in to leave a comment and being rerouted to the home page, not fun.

Britney's appearance is going to be one of those *things* If ratings shoot up and a renewal is in the offing, hoo-ray. If it makes no difference then it was a whole show wasted.

This screams desperation, and this is (or was)a great show

too bad the network has so little faith in it, to pull a stupid stunt like this.

apparently having someone on who clearly has contempt for her own children is a bonus for them.

a big miss for me and I hope other real fans of this once fine show

This is like the nerdy kid being excited that the cool girl invited him to eat at her table, but only if he promises to do her homework. Yeah, the show will get that neat TMZ buzz that studios are gagging for, but it will turn off all but the most Jerry Springeresque of viewers. But hey, I'm sure that girl who's had three hundred paternity tests and still doesn't know who her baby daddy is will absolutely *love* seeing Brit on HIMYM.
