« Today's News: Our Take
This Week, Brian Williams Will Meet the Press
Brian Williams by Joe Kohen/WireImage.com
NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams will moderate Meet the Press this Sunday, according to a network spokeswoman. Williams is taking over the chair while the news division's executives deliberate over choosing a long-term replacement for their late colleague, Tim Russert.
Williams was a White House correspondent before he was groomed to be successor to Brokaw for Nightly News. If Williams' assignment lasts, he won't be the first to do double duty on an evening newscast and a Sunday public affairs show. Face the Nation's Bob Schieffer continued to moderate his show while he was interim anchor of CBS Evening News. — Stephen Battaglio

Brian Williams is an anchorman; nothing wrong with that. He is no Tim Russert and no one will be. I do not envy him this Sunday but hope America will be kind to him. I hope that NBC takes the task of finding someone with Tim's QUALITIES seriously and looks outside of NBC and even journalism, if necessary. Remember, Tim came to NBC from politics, and he was so good at what he did because he LOVED politics so very much! THAT'S who they need to find!

That's one of the things I like about George Stephanoupolis as well.
I actually like the idea of Tom Brokaw filling in for the remainder of the election year unless someone absolutely amazing just appears out of the woodwork. I have loved Chris Matthews since a PoliSci professor used "Hardball" as a text book - but his style is so different.
Whoever they eventually choose will have impossibly big, respected, lovable "shoes" to fill.
Can they just wait a few years for Luke?

No one can fill Tim Russert's shoes; however, Brian Williams is a class act all the way and I am sure he will do a credible job.

I would love to see Chuck Todd at least given an opportunity to host "Meet the Press" - I think his information and delivery are always top notch and he would make an excellent moderator. Although I watch "Hardball" daily, as well as the Sunday morning "Chris Matthews Show" there is no way I would want to see Matthews take over "Meet the Press" as his style is way too opinionated, confrontational and over the top for the "Press" type format

In the big thread about successors, the consensus was for David Gregory. But, after some brought it up, I too am now convinced that Gwen Ifill would make the best choice. I think NBC should buy her out from PBS. She would make the smoothest and most acceptable transition from the fantastic Russert (wow, 17 years on MTP) and would gain NBC high marks.
If not her, then probably Gregory or Lester Holt. Others brought up Campbell Brown, but there's just no way NBC could get her from CNN without a long no-compete period.
NBC, buy Ifill out from PBS.

I certainly haven't deliberated much on the 'perfect' permanent replacement - but I really like Brian Williams, so I'm glad he is filling in on Meet the Press right now.

Whoever is the next moderator of Meet The Press knows that there will be big shoes to fill. Tim Russert was well known, respected and loved by all. I think that it is fair to say that no one ever held a grudge against him for doing his job and exceedingly well. I believe that Brian Williams will do a fine job for the time needed however long or short that it may be.

i must say i don't watch meet the press on a reqular basis but i have from time to time. Tim can not be replaced, just someone will start a new journey on meet the press. Brian would be good, so would Tom or someone from another network. we have to look ahead now and have our hearts and minds open to whom ever comes in and start this next journey. we all will miss Tim.........he was a remarkable man.

Sigh. Sob. Can Tim Russert do the show and this year's election coverage from heaven? I am willing to pay extra for the Heavenly Cable Channel.
Bottom line is, there is no one like him.
Hopefully they can find someone equally passionate about politics, but also kind, considerate, classy and not a egomaniac of a show-off.
Meet the Press brought in $60 million a year. I wonder how many advertisers are going to pull out based on the new host.
People are asking for refunds to golf tournaments because Tiger Woods is out the rest of the year.
This will be interesting to watch.
