Mary-Kate Requests Immunity in Ledger Investigation

Federal investigators have a grand jury subpoena that could force Mary-Kate Olsen to testify in their investigation of Heath Ledger’s fatal drug overdose, but are negotiating with her attorney to try to get her to talk voluntarily about how he got two of the painkillers that contributed to his death, a law enforcement official told TVGuide.com.

As first reported Monday by The New York Post, the former Full House actress has requested immunity from prosecution in return for her testimony about The Dark Knight star.

The law enforcement source, who spoke to TVGuide.com on condition of anonymity because the investigation is ongoing, said it was unclear why Olsen is seeking immunity. Though Ledger had several legal prescriptions, the investigation is focused on how he got OxyContin and Vicodin, for which he did not have prescriptions, the official said.

"Despite tabloid speculation, Mary-Kate Olsen had nothing whatsoever to do with the drugs found in Heath Ledger's home or his body, and she does not know where he obtained them," Olsen’s attorney, Michael C. Miller, said in a statement Monday.

Tabloids have also questioned why a masseuse who found Ledger in January called Olsen before calling 911. Olsen then sent her own personal security to Ledger’s apartment to help. The official said the timeline of Ledger’s death was not under investigation.

The Drug Enforcement Administration acquired the subpoena on April 23 and has been negotiating since then with her attorney about her testimony, the official said.

No, duckface shouldn't get immunity. The fact that she's asking for it is sending off red flags.

Only people who have something to hide seek immunity.

Hollywood used to be filled with giants like Frank Sinatra. Now all you have is gutter trash like the Olson twins. Like Joan Rivers said, they both look like drowned rats.

I was going to say something, but ListlessAgent said it best.

Not only that, but why is it that it was only after Heath died that we heard how "such close friends" these two were?

And yeah...if according to her attorney, MK didn't do anything wrong, why is she requesting immunity?

I've never liked the twins, but that's another rant for another thread.

If she'd been anyone but who she is, do you think the government would be willing to let her put them off?

The government needs to step up and not take any guff from celebrities. Especially those of her ilk.

JMHO.

Very smart move by Mary-Kate Olsen, you just can't trust goverment officials that they will do the right thing for you once ALL the facts are out.

Let's say Mary-Kate tells the whole side of her story, and she sees no wrong in it. Then for whatever reason, the investigators focus on a small detail, make a big deal out of it, and then screw her over.

It's very smart of her to protect herself. Maybe they'll learn that Mary-Kate could've done a better job alerting medics, etc. Or that she could've done something better in an effort to save his life; even if that thing she could've done would've ended up being meaningless, they can still screw her that way.

That's how they do.

As someone who still wonders about John Belushi's suspicious death and the possible involvement of others, I hope the complete truth comes out this time.

no way, if she really cared about him as a friend then she would help as much as possible unless she has some role in his death and isnt telling.

Now MO, you KNOW there's no jail that could hold her! As it is, she escaped from the interrogation room!

...slid right under the door...

Offer her some coke...she'll admit to kidnapping the Lindberg baby, assassinating JFK and killing Nicole Brown Simpson.

Hollywood used to be filled with giants like Frank Sinatra.
Yeah. What a paragon of virtue he was.

Personally I think she's doing the smart thing. Listen to your lawyer and keep your mouth shut. Ledger overdosed, and probably not by accident, she wasn't there and she reacted as one would expect a pampered, insulated, clueless Hollywood actress to react to receiving a phone call like she got from her masseuse. She relies on her own people to protect her, hence the call to her own security rather than the police. These investigators do not have her best interests at heart and she needs to protect herself from the unknown consequences she might face. If you think just because you're innocent you've got nothing to worry about you are wrong!

I love armchair coroners. The professionals, you know, the ones who do this for a living and know their stuff, disagree with you.

Heath's death was such a sickening tragedy, and nothing will ever make it right. As angry as I am at the very idea that someone contributed to his death even by negligence, part of me says just let it go and lets not ruin anyone else's lives in the process. Of course I defer to his family, and perhaps an investigation is what they want or need to achieve closure. Another part of me says that maybe if she's responsible for giving him her prescriptions it could help shed light on the danger of sharing medications. I see it happen all the time, totally casually, with things like vicodin and antidepressants. No one thinks anything of it. Maybe if this investigation brings some of that into the public consciousness it can help save other people.

WOW! So much hate in your hearts. So much hate for someone you don't even know.

Just because YOU haven't heard that MK & Heath were friends doesn't make it not true. Believe it or not we, the public, are not entitled to know everything that's going on in these "stars" lives.

Just because MK is protecting herself doesn't mean she has something to hide.

Frank Seinatra probably had more dirt under his fingernails than anybody else in Hollywood. Please don't make him out to be a saint.
