Mary-Kate Breaks Silence on Heath's "Tragic" Death

Almost exactly 72 hours after Heath Ledger was found dead in his rented New York City apartment and her own name almost immediately was brought into the conversation, Mary-Kate Olsen has spoken up about the Australian actor's passing. "Heath was a friend. His death is a tragic loss," the actress says in a statement to the AP. "My thoughts are with his family during this very difficult time."

Olsen, of course, was the first person that masseuse Diana Wolozin speed-dialed — several times, in fact — before alerting 911 after discovering Ledger's lifeless body.

Contrary to some reports, an NYPD spokesman maintains that investigators have no interest in talking to Olsen with regards to Ledger's death.

I have read some remarks about the fact that Brad Renfro's death was not so important because he lived a bad life....well, I would just like to say ..that anytime a young person dies...it is very important....Heath may not have been a drug user or a drinker, but that does not make the loss of life of any young person any less tragic..Maybe the loss of these young people should be thought of as tragic, and not just something that happened to an unlucky person...I really take exception to the remarks made about Brad Renfro. He was, after all, a son that was loved by his family...
There will be some that will really take exception to what I have written....sorry...I lost a son because we could not help him with his addiction.

I agree Pattycake. Any death is tragic, I don't care who it is or how they lived their lives. The fact that these two actors were so young, makes it even doubly tragic. Sadly, people tend to treat celebrities as so much funiture, meaning that they think they can treat them however they want and say whatever they please without thought of what is right or wrong.

I saw last night that Mary-Kate was saying "I'm sending my private security over there."

How about telling the woman to call 911?
It has been said that Heath Ledger was already dead.
But what if he hadn't been?
Time is so crucial in times like this.

About Brad Renfro....how can anyone say he "lived a bad life"...
Did these people know him? I'd like them to point out any one thing that could portray Brad as a bad person. What did he ever do to anyone else? So he had a problem with drugs. That doesn't immediately label someone as "bad." I am a fan of his and have been reading about him the past week and comments made from his friends and he was a wonderful human being. I've read several stories that can only leave one to believe that he was a very kind and generous person.

I have wondered why young Renfro's death did not rate much in the way of media. It is a shame that his passing was pretty much ignored compared to the media firestorm concerning Ledger's death.

Having said that, I do not wish that kind of intrusion into anybody's grief process.

When Anna Nicole's son died just after the birth of her precious daughter, which are two of the most life-altering events that could possibly happen to a woman in that amount of time, the media were relentless and did not hardly let up until long after Anna herself was dead.

With Britney playing her own brand of russian roulette, I'm wondering if and when she might ever be allowed to (heaven forbid) rest in peace.

Too many questions and none of them have anyting to do with Mary-Kate Olsen. I just hope she is taking notes somewhere.

I did not mean to imply that Brad was a bad person...the papers just stated that he had trouble with drugs and alcohol...I have been there and done that with a son that we loved very much...I am sure that Brad just had problems....Please let me say I am sorry if I implied that he was a bad person....because I know that he was not
sorry if I upset you in any way....

No, I understand, my comment was more directed towards the people who made those statements you mentioned. People are just so insensitive and frustrate me.
I have also read some comments from guys asking why Ledger's death matters, and why so many people care, he was just some rich pr*ck who did nothing in life, and what makes him better than anyone else. Every life is important and obviously Heath's life wasn't easy. Money doesn't automatically make someone happy. And obviously his work contributed to his demise, so it can't be easier than anything we do.
And I agree with the previous poster...it's a little irritating that not many people paid too much attention to Renfro's passing, but I would rather he rest peacefully and his family not be bothered. And I'd never wish the many hateful comments about Heath's death upon anyone. Brad was more low-key and stayed away from the big hollywood films, unlike Ledger. But both were brilliant actors and they left us too soon.

Heath's sudeden demise is very tragic but did any of you know that on the very same day Heath died another well known 28 year old died as well? His name is Billy Poole and he was a world renound Extreme Skier. The day after Heath's death I found 100's of "In loving memory" videos for Heath. Yet I couldn't find one for Billy Poole. I am not good at making a tribute video but perhaps one of you would like to honor him and his accomplishments. He was a young man who died doing what he loved and after watching video of him skiing down some of the most amazing mountains in the world, I thought "Wow, now there was someone living life to his fullest potential". It made me miss skiing, a sport I grew up participating in and now I am going to go back to it. Even though my inner child will surely beat up my outer , older body I know it will be worth it! God bless them both and all the young lives that are lost everyday in this world!

By the way, Patty, I am sorry for your loss. I cannot even imagine.

After reading the comments that were posted in response to this article I believe that there are reasons why Heath's death has been in the media so this past week.
(1) he was a rising actor that appeared to live a non-celebrity lifestyle
(2) his death in terms of Mary-Kate being contacted instead of 911, taking pills (similar to Anna Nicole Smith), and how he was found is mind-blogging
(3) he had a young daughter that he adored
(4) there were no signs that he was in "danger" of harming himself to the extent of dying.

The last point I think is important since Brad Renfro had prior history with drug and alcohol abuse that was public knowledge so from the media pov his death was a result of his addiction. I think it should be noted that Renfro had a son (possibly under the age of 5 years old) that will never know his father.

I think all these factors played into why Renfro and Billy Poole's death have not had as much media coverage. Either way, 3 lives have been taken within the first month of 2008 it is a tragedy on all levels. I am sorry and my heart goes out to all the families (including yours Patty). I just hope that people start to value their relationships with others because you never know when it's your last time seeing them.

Yes, Brad's son was 4 years old and lives in Japan, but he was able to spend quality time with him in the days/weeks before he died, and spent time with him every Christmas. And I've heard that his son is exactly like him. Precious. =)

When someone's dying, the first thing you don't do is call an Olson twin. Why anyone would want to associate themselves with human garbage like the Olson twins is beyond me.

I don't trust her. I think she knows more, but because of her high status (money) people (investigators) are looking the other way.

Why would the masseuse call Olsen before 911? Was this woman new to the US, or did she have something to hide?

That stupid masseuse wasted 26 mins calling Mary-Kate three times before calling 911. He was in cardiac arrest when the paramedics arrived. Could he have been saved if she called 911 first? We'll never know, it's tragic and it makes me angry.
