Mary-Kate and Ashley Are Authoresses

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are writing a book about fashion called Influence. The coffee-table volume, in stores this fall, will include new photos of the pair by photographer Rankin and essays by the authors about the photographers, designers and artists who have inspired them. This list is said to include Bob Colacello, Terry Richardson, Jack Pierson and Christian Louboutin, but, before they go to press, I'd like to make a few other suggestions of people who, at least to me, appear to have influenced the pair's distinctive look:

1) Bob Marley (le chapeau)
2) the old-timey hobo who lives by the railroad yard
3) my nana
4) E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial
5) Elton John (eyewear only)

Inspired yet? I can't wait for their joint book party with Eminem. I hope there's rumaki! — Mickey O'Connor

HOLY CRAP!!! What a scary pic! And these were the budding media empire giants, beloved by little girls everywhere? Parents can use it to warn their kids what they're in for if they have trouble getting them to eat.

That was funny.

Is this a legitimate picture? They look like they're dressed for Halloween. I'm no stunner, but I'm sure glad I don't look like THAT.

Pictures of THEM? That makes me shudder. At this stage, not even adult photos would be enough reason to buy this book. Those girls need, uh what do they call it? Oh yes... FOOD!

I'd take them "authoring" over their "acting" any day.

Of course I wouldn't have anything to do with them...but that bag of bones MK infiltrated my show Weeds (please someone tell me she won't be in season 4!)

I just don't understand why these two have not gone the way of the other kids on that show... as in gone.
They were first put on TV as babies.. they never had to audition in any true sense of the word.
They were kind of cute as kids, but now! They are a bit creepy looking and have no talent.
Can't the media just ignore them and then maybe they will go away?

I'd rather Mary-Kate and Ashley than any more about Britney, Lindsay, or Paris (though we haven't heard from her in a while. Must be karma keeping us from her!)

I don't know if this is a "typical" picture of them, but damn, that is down right scary.

I think you're being harsh. Mary-Kate and Ashley are often respected by the greats for their unique fashion sense. They take risks and it makes them a helluva lot more interesting than those supposed fashionistas who just follow trends.

I agree with Stableson. And at least you don't hear about them in the news for getting DUI's and causing trouble. They do their own thing, so what's wrong with that? They're also obviously very business savvy and they've created an empire for themselves. They are very well respected in the business and fashion world, which is more than you can say for Britney and Lindsey.

WHY are they respected by people in the fashion industry? WHY?

Okay, well it's clear you used that particular picture just to make jokes. That picture is probably over a year old and they don't look like that anymore. Mary Kate's hair isn't a garish platinum anymore and for the most part is out of her hobo chic phase. If you had grabbed a photo from them at New York Fashion Week, you would actually see why they would want to write a book about fashion influences. They're very fashionable young girls. Instead of being mocked, they should be celebrated as role models for young entrepreneurs everywhere, especially young women.

Sorry but don't you mean good role models for skeletons?
