New Cougar Growls on Gossip Girl!

Get those claws out Gossip Girl Upper East Siders, because there's a new cougar in town! OK, she's not quite a full-fledged cougar age wise, but Madchen Amick has just been cast as a May-December love interest for Nate — aka Blair's high school-aged ex.

EW reports that Amick, who played a casino wife on the "blink-and-you-missed-it" Viva Laughlin, will play Catherine Mason when Gossip Girl returns to the CW on Sept. 1.

I love Madchen Amick! She was great on Freddie. Probably the best part of that show. She was great in Gilmore Girls, ER, Joey, etc... why isn't she a bigger star yet?

Maybe because she doesn't seem to have much talent for picking quality projects.

I'm going to have to say that Brian Austin Green was the BEST thing on Freddy. He exorcised David Silver on that show and now he's done it again on Terminator. Woo Hoo!

Most actors do not have the luxury to pick their parts, much less pick and choose "quality projects."

Which brings me to my next point: except for Skiffy's Saturday night movies, most projects set out to *be* "quality projects" but it's only after-the-fact, after the project is done and aired, that the relative quality of the project can be adjudged. Even with name people at the helm.

IOW, an actor can go in on a good script with a respected director and writer and the whole thing can still come out as crap due to any number of factors totally outside the actor's control.

Also, GMAFB! Madchen Amick is waaaaay too young to be cast as a menopausal Betazoid cougar.

That's what *I* thought when I read this, and then I figured maybe she just looked way younger than she was on Twin Peaks. But maybe my first reaction wasn't too far off track. How old IS she?

I love Madchen Amick as well. She was awesome on Joey, Central Park West, etc. Pretty much everything she has done.

But, I'm not sure I can follow her to Gossip Girl...

Gee thanks ShutUpRob.
In the same spirit, thought I'd pass these partial definitons on for your edification:
Sarcasm: a mode of satirical wit depending for its effect on bitter, caustic, and often ironic language;
Superfluous: exceeding what is sufficient or necessary;
Obvious: easily discovered, seen, or understood;
Humor: something that is or is designed to be comical or amusing.

According to imdb, she's 37; she was 20 on Twin Peaks.

Can't believe it's been almost 20 years since I fell in love with Sherilyn Fenn....

Dear DaMess,

For your own personal edification:

Passive-Aggression is the sincerest form of witlessness. Please aim higher, toward mere competence, next time.

The definition of cougar has morphed from an over tanned, undersexed, past-her-prime desperate divorcee (some of the earlier definitions)to simply an older woman 35+ still in the dating pool.

Heck, even Denise Richards made some "Cougar of the Day" list on some online men's mag not too long ago.

At this rate of continental word drift, Hayden Pannetierre will make a "Cougar of the Day" ... tomorrow.

Ugh. It's so been done. Dawson's Creek, the OC... It seems like every major teen soap opera has played the cougar card. Why does GG have to go there?

Because, MissBrody cougars are cool now, thanks to Demi Moore. So all the shows jump on the cougar bandwagon to show they are hip. Just like a few years ago, when practically every show had a character who could talk to dead people.
