Luke Perry: No to 90210 Nuevo

Luke Perry will not strap on the old squint-and-sideburns again to appear on the CW's 90210 spin-off/remake/co-branding. "I can't re-imagine it currently," the erstwhile Dylan McKay quipped in an interview with Billy Bush on his radio show.

Perry's former West Bev cohorts Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling have signed on to reprise their roles on the new show, and Jason Priestley may end up behind the camera directing an ep or two. You have to assume that, if the producers asked, Ian Ziering, Brian Austin Green, and/or Tiffani Thiessen would stop by the new Peach Pit for a bite. But, for me, the real "get" would be a Shannen Doherty-Luke Perry twofer. Wouldn't it be awesome to have those two show up — straight from London or wherever they shipped Brenda off to — newly married and shoving their contemptuous passion in Kelly's smug face? I bet Kelly wouldn't "choose me" then!

But no. It seems that Perry won't be tempted by Kelly Taylor's siren song again: "It's just not something that I've thought about, to be honest. I don't see it happening," he told Bush. Boo, Dylan!

What do you think? Do you like the idea that these familiar faces will be popping up, or should the CW let its "re-imagining" stand on its own two well-pedicured feet? — Mickey O'Connor

Even though I'm 24 and don't remember too much about the original 90210, I DO remember that whole Brenda-Dylan-Kelly crap. I'm still bitter that he picked Kelly.

Brian Austin Green has actually managed to snag a job on a real series (Terminator). I doubt he's going to be in any rush to get back to playing David Silver anytime soon when Terminator has a chance to give him a less dorky/more action hero-y reputation for the younger generation.

You've seen the David Silver plotlines/dance moves, right? Why would anyone possibly agree to go back to that?

Jennie was the big get, since she was the biggest talent on the show and has remained fairly famous since the show ended.
The others won't really add anything to the show besides seeing how they look all old and stuff. It's nice to give them work though.

Tiffani Amber Thissen has already passed on the chance to appear in this show.

I would LOVE to see Shannen Doherty return to 90210 land as Brenda... what about Brenda as a washed up london theater actress who moves to L.A. to try her hand at a television show and has to contend with a demanding teenager daughter who she has largely ignored. and finds out the daughters teacher is none other than Kelly Taylor.

Why not take the job? It's not like Sideshow Luke Perry has better offers.

With stellar options like "Supernova" (a USA network original!) and "Recoil" (whose description reads "Deep in the jungle of a remote island in the Pacific lives a new breed of mutant snake."), this show sounds like a step up!

No thanks.

So glad that Luke Perry declined. I watched the ORIGINAL during my college and post college years and this new "spin-off" doesn't interest me in the least.

Why are they calling it a spin-off anyway? Melrose Place was a spin-off--Jake showed up in 90210, dumped Kelly, which segued into MP.

The only way I'd consider this a spin-off would be if Jennie Garth or Tori Spelling's character were the MAIN characters--which...they're not.

I, too, am still bitter that Dylan chose Kelly over Brenda. Where was this 'loooove' during seasons 1-3? The Dylan-Brenda romance was the most passionate, smoldering relationship I'd ever seen teens tackle. Okay, they were in their 20's, but the characters weren't, lol.

I dont relaly care who Brenda ends up with. I never liked her. I wished that Kelly would have ended up with Brandon. They were meant to be together. Not Dylan. I would love to see him on the show but I dont blame him for choosing not to. Its like going backwards.

Okay, I remember the summer when Brenda went away to Paris, on the bus to the airport (leaving from the beach club) & she saw Dylan & Kelly walking together talking. The worry look on Brenda’s face, you knew there was going to be a hook-up. I actually enjoyed that storyline because I preferred Kelly BUT…I was WRONG towards the end of the season when all of the sudden, Brenda has no boyfriend, Kelly is w/Dylan but is whining about how she was fat(taking diet pills)& how know one looks past her looks(she won best looking). Then they went off to the SAME college(??), Kelly pledged a sorority and wanted Dylan to act like a frat boy even though she knew he was pretty much a loner. Kelly whined & whined and then got jealous of Dylan’s sister Erica. Then she was jealous of Brenda being in Cat in the Hot Tin Roof. Well, after that I wished Dylan had chosen Brenda because he was dealing with a basket case. With Brenda at least his only problem was her father, but with Kelly, it was this & that and yet another drama blah blah flippin blah and THEN SHE DUMPS him for his best friend. After all the Brenda-Dylan-Kelly triangle and she all of the sudden becomes enamored with her ex-best friend’s brother. I loved the story of Toni Marchette because she was the only one who truly accepted Dylan the way he was and did not try to change him (unconditional love). It was so sad when she fell dead out of the car, in the rain, and he screams “they killed her Brandon, look at what they did”. LOL!!;) Umm…by what I wrote you wouldn’t think I had a life!! Okay what were we talking about? Should Luke Perry make a cameo? Nah. Been there done that. Brenda? You BET. Too bad there is still animosity between Shannen & Jeannie.

No. They do NOT need Doherty.

She has no career now for good reason. The consensus from virtually everyone she's worked with since Little House is that she's a...ahem... witch.

And after a few years she has this tendency to publically trash her show.

That drams's unnecessary.

I have to agree that Brian Austin Green's probably not interested in 90210 Redux. Why go back to being David Silver when he can kick butt as Derek Reese? I don't blame Luke Perry for not wanting to revisit the show, either.

Of course Ian Ziering would do it if asked- he's never had anything but that show! I don't hear anyone asking, however....

I watched the original 90210 religiously. HOwever, I could not stand the show once Kelly & Dylan got together. They had NO chemistry together and to stab your friend in the back like that is unforgivable. In the finale Dylan's aunt told Brenda to let Dylan go now & that they would get back together in the future. If Luke Perry does return he should only return with SHANNON on his arm as they had electrifying chemistry! I have no plans to watch this new show as I am older now and 90210 is the past but I just wanted to say my peace about Luke & Shannon characters.

It wouldn't really be a "re-imagined" series if everyone from the original 90210 showed up - more like a reunion. An appearance or two is quirky. Everyone coming back is desperate. Let the new show succeed or fail on its own without the continual open-door to original cast members.

Let's get Emma Caulfield back as a Susan Keats / Anya (BTVS) hybrid!!!! who curses all the moron boys/men on the show!!! Okay, one can dream :) Hey, both shows were shot at the same high school in Torrance.
