Letterman Puts Paris in the "That's Hot" Seat

Paris Hilton and David Letterman by John Paul Filo/CBS
David Letterman on Friday's Late Show forced the prison issue with Paris Hilton, ultimately making the heirhead feel "sad" that she paid a visit. At first owning up that her jail stint was "very traumatic," an increasingly uneasy Hilton later sought to dismiss the line of questioning by saying, "I don't really want to talk about it anymore." (To which Dave, god bless him, responded, "This is where you and I are different — this is all I want to talk about.")

"There's other stuff to talk about, Dave," Paris countered, perhaps feeling that her thoughts on the mortgage industry's collapse were going unappreciated. "Now you're making me sad.... You're hurting my feelings." Find the full video here.

It was hilarious when Dave drank Paris' perfume! And then after Dave says to her, "I feel you've cheated us of a visit", Paris then says, "I miss you guys" with an almost just wanting-to-get-this-interview-over vibe going. Jay would probably just sucked up to her the whole time!

I was disappointed Letterman had her on as a guest. What exactly does Hilton 'do' that makes her interesting again? Could someone remind me as to just 'why' she's a celebrity?

Exactly what else is there to talk about, Paris?

She made a name for herself as tabloid fodder. If she expects anyone to take her seriously, perhaps she should follow in the footsteps of other rich kids like Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg and actually do something that benefits others with all that money and all that time on her hands.

emsmythe - I don't think that Dave had her on b/c she's a "celebrity" (or not)... He's really a comedian at heart... and hell, he got to make fun of her. I loved it.

Certainly one of the best interviews I've ever watched! Go Letterman! :^O

There also comes a point when enough is enough. Granted Paris has caused most of the backlash she is getting but it was cruel to invite someone to your "house" and then ridicule them the whole time. She was a good sport about it through it all but you can see she was unconfortable. It's kind of scary we all get joy out of others misery. If Paris is famous, it is the fault of those who buy into what she sells, whatever that is. I say don't hate the player, hate the game.

These are the exact kinds of stunts that make me despise Dave, quite frankly he's not funny, but everyone else loves him.

"I just want to talk about my perfume and my movie!" If you obeyed some of life's basic rules then you may have been given time to do so. Actually, if you had followed the rules you wouldn't have been invited on the show. I applaud Letterman for pounding her with questions related to her crimes. Yes, they were crimes. Her perfume should be called ".08"(or what ever the blood alcohol cut off point is in CA.)Bravo Dave!

You could've used the correct photo.

There's a time to back off. You move on to other things in her life.

I used to love Letterman when I was a kid, and I just started watching him again about a month ago after a long absence. When I saw he had Paris on as a guest, I was mad. I figured Dave had gone the way of Leno and sold out. When he started mocking her to her face and even made fun of her when interviewing the next guest, I was sorry I ever doubted Dave. At least someone doesn't pander to the PC police and the kissasses of Hollywood.

That's why I have considered Dave the King of Late Night.

There's humor and then there's mean spirited. This wasn't humor.......

Well, I guess I'll be in the minority, yet again, but I felt sorry for Paris as she desperately tried to change the subject. When the "King of Mean" wouldn't, and kept after her, I simply turned the show off. I'm not saying she doesn't deserve to be raked over the coals for her immature and illegal behaviour, but I'd be willing to bet a million dollars that when she agreed to be on his show, he [or his "people"] promised that certain subjects would be off limits.

By going after her with no holds barred, and Paris being so obviously unable to match wits on his level, it reminded me of a deer in the headlights and I wound up feeling sorry for her! Enough that, as I said above, I turned it off.

For shame, Dave! Pick on someone your own size.
