Chris Noth Reveals Intent to Leave L&O: "All's Well that Ends Well!"

It goes without saying, the Jurassic Park guy has Big shoes to fill. Jeff Goldblum, whose last foray into prime-time was NBC's short-lived Raines, is joining USA Network's Law & Order: Criminal Intent. There, he will share lead crime-solving duties with Vincent D'Onofrio.
"Jeff's presence will add a new dimension to an already successful show," franchise overL&Ord Dick Wolf says in a statement.
When asked about his exit, Noth told TVGuide.com in a statement, "When others couldn't get television shows produced in New York, Dick Wolf found a way to do it, and as a New Yorker I truly appreciate all that he has done for the city. The last few years have been fantastic, and both sides are happy with the result. 'All's well that ends well.'"
Previously, Noth had called his decision to part ways with the show "totally mutual," telling the New York Post, "I've been in the Law & Order franchise a long time.... I've pretty much squeezed all the juice out of that role."
Says Dick Wolf, "Mike Logan is one of the most popular detectives in the history of television. We all wish him the best."
CI recently was picked up for a 16-episode eighth season. Noth is still filming Season 7 (currently unspooling Sundays on USA), and this news is very new to everyone, sources tell me, so it is unclear exactly how Logan will be written off the show.
What's your take? Has CI just lost a bunch of fans? Were the producers so preoccupied with whether or not they could replace Noth, they didn't stop to think if they should? — Matt Mitovich

How about they let D'Onofrio and Erbe be in all of the CI episodes. I like that idea much better.

Ha ha, happy late April Fool's?? Please?! Pretty please?!
No, this is unacceptable. I can't go without Logan again. Can't do it. Waaaahhhhhh!!!! No. Why?! Why is he leaving? No. Just no.
Okay, now that my temper tantrum is over, I'm super bummed. I think Noth's had really strong performances on CI, and I liked seeing Logan all grown up. I think he's had good chemistry with most of his partners, especially Alicia Witt when she was filling in for Nicholson.
This bums me out, and I am less than excited for the L&Os next season, what with this news and the news earlier this week that OTH Barbie is joining SVU. I just hope the mothership stays intact- last season was so strong, even with the loss of Jesse L. Martin and transition to Anthony Anderson. Ugh.
I hope Jeff Goldblum isn't too annoying. Or that if he is, they pull him quickly. LOL.

MalTru I couldn't stand Alicia Witt when she was on there. Good riddance.
And Goldblum? I like looking at him, but how much is he going to be paid to replace Noth? Wouldn't it be cheaper to get unknowns?

I think it's great. I love Jeff Goldblum. I didn't bother with the CI episodes that had Noth in them. I found his character to be dull. Even Bobby Goren, who I used to adore, has been watered down in recent years. I'd love to have him back to his old, quirky self. But if that's not possible, maybe Jeff can make his episodes more interesting.

I wish them well, but honestly, the show seems to be wandering a bit, and I have to wonder what's going on with this series.
I've been a fan of CI from the beginning, FWIW.

"Of Noth's second CI stint coming to an end, Wolf adds, "Chris has been a member of [our] family since the beginning, and Mike Logan is one of the most popular detectives in the history of television."
Yeah? Then why not KEEP him, you moron?
I've seen Goldblum in a LOT of movies. But I just can't see him in this show. Unless Wolf wants to tank this franchise.
I'm going to stick to watching the early years to this season in repeats.

Cris Noth was the better of the two between him and D'Onofrio. I would have preferred keeping him instead.
Goldblum was very good on Raines so we will have to wait and see!

Goldblum's a talented actor, so I see no reason to believe he won't carry his half of the show. As for Noth, does anybody honestly think this is a matter of the producers not wanting him back? It seems to me like an actor who had a major role recent blockbuster might not feel so inclined to sign up for another year on a basic cable show.

I only watched the Noth episodes. I couldn't take Vincent D'Onofrio, why can't why still lose him off the show too.

I've been a fan of CI from the start & this doesn't seem like a wise move on Dick Wolf's part. How did they end up choosing Goldblum?
I think he's a good actor, but his memorable roles (for me) have been more comedic than dramatic (his "Jurassic Park" character was a know-it-all comic relief), save maybe "The Fly."
Didn't see Jeff in "Raines," but I can't imagine him showing the same assertiveness or agression that Noth's character does so well.

I threw a hissy fit when I saw this posted on the SpoilerTV blog this morning. Didn't believe it! I hate to think Chris went and got the bighead cuz of the dumb SatC movie. But, alas, that's TV.
I'm excited to see Jeff back on TV.
