Law & Order Star Leaves for Political Pastures
Although NBC renewed L&O the original flavor earlier this week, Fred Dalton Thompson, who plays conservative and curmudgeonly district attorney Arthur Branch, most likely will not be back, says The Hollywood Reporter. Thompson, a former Republican Tennessee Senator, has talked about making a 2008 White House bid and while he has yet to officially declare his candidacy, chances are his political aspirations will supersede his TV career. If he does run, perhaps he can use that catchy "dum-dum" as his campaign theme. — Reporting by Raven Snook

Hate to see him leave the show and wish him well in whatever he pursues - should he actually leave.

Good riddance! Don't care for his acting or his politics. Law & Order hasn't been able to replace Steven Hill, the original DA. Dianne Weist was woefully miscast and Thompson was a stiff. It's not a big part but it can be important.

I think he will make a good republican candidate!
Maybe he is the next Ronald Regan!!
I think it would be catchy to use L&O "dum-dum" as his campaign slogan if NBC allows. A lot of people would recongnize it. Win-Win situation!!!

He's a former Senator from Tennessee. In addition to his role on Law & Order as DA Arthur Branch, here is his acting resume:
