Bell's an Early Ringer in "Sexiest Vegetarian" Poll
Kristen Bell and actor Russell Brand by John Shearer/ WireImage
Kristen Bell and her Forgetting Sarah Marshall costar Russell Brand have jumped to an early lead in the annual "World's Sexiest Vegetarian" poll, hosted by PETA.org. A longtime vegetarian, Bell has said she has "a hard time disassociating the animals I cuddle with from the animals on my plate," while Brand went "that way" at age 14 and has "never regretted it."
Other TV-familiar faces in the running for this year's meat-free crown include Hayden Panettiere, Emily Deschanel, Milo Ventimiglia and Lake Bell. (And yes, Ausiello made the short list again.) Past winners include Idol Carrie Underwood, Natalie Portman and Alicia Silverstone.

Why is it that all vegetarians i have met smokes cigarettes, which is pretty hypocritical. It's not okay to eat meat, one of the most natural things in the world, but poisoning everyone around you and the enviroment, that's okay

I don't know who your vegetarian acquaintances are, but that's bizarre that "all" of them smoke. I know many vegetarians (am one myself), and I know none who smoke and none who would even think of it.

Especially if they're smoking meats.

Yes, that's strange to me, too. I am a vegan and none of my vegetarian friends smoke. I only have one friend who smokes, in fact, and he tries to hide it from his kids (which is hilarious to me).
Thanks for that picture from Forgetting Sarah Marshall. I went on a movie binge on Saturday and I saw that movie (as well as Iron Man and Baby Mama...all in one day! I haven't been to a movie in years!), and I have to say just watching Kristen Bell on the big screen wins her the sexiest vegetarian vote from me!
Are there any older vegheads on the list? I always think of Marilu Henner (her books have really helped me). She's someone who can make a discussion about bovine slime sexy!

Why do you people want to murder all those plants? They have feelings too, many plants respond to various types of music, it's been documented in research. They have no way of defending themselves unlike juicy, delicious animals.

Yes my previous post was not meant to be completely serious, but the part about plants responding to music is true. I saw something about that on the Discovery channel or some channel like that several years ago. There isn't a whole lot of difference in my opinion between eating plants or animals. Your still killing something in the process. Unless you're like a vulture eating something already dead.

Dang, why didn't I think of that when I was a kid, wildbill!? I could've made a persuasive argument that my dad was forcing me to commit genocide every Saturday when I had to mow the lawn!

Since you wrote a serious post, wildbill, I will respond seriously.
Not all vegetarians are vegetarians because they oppose killing animals. Personally, I hate animals. I don't eat them because I feel healthier not eating them. Even more than not eating animal protein, which made me feel a lot better, I find my health is infinitely better since I eliminated dairy from my diet. I truly believe humans weren't meant to drink cow's milk. It's designed for cows/bulls.
By the way, I'm also pro-choice on the whole meat-eating thing. I am not a fan of PETA, because they are always trying to tell people how to live. I would no sooner deprive someone else of the meat they love than I would expect someone to force me to eat a pork chop.

I'm both a nonsmoker and a vegetarian, and furthermore have never known a vegetarian who smoked. But the reasons why one would become a vegetarian (whether health or ethical reasons) are various and not all would preclude smoking.

TVGORD:
You "hate" animals? All animals? I guess your hostility must stem from some kind of unfortunate series of altercations with dogs, mules, giraffes, zebras, bluebirds, turtles, eagles, otters (my, there are A LOT of animals on the planet, aren't there?)--otherwise I hope you realize how your statement makes no sense whatsoever. But it does say something about the kind of human animal YOU are.

That's right, GarryB. I don't mind certain animals (cats keep to themselves, for the most part...birds are okay, in cages where they can't crap on my head), but I was attacked by a dog as a child and that contributed to me not wanting to be near them, as a rule. They're unpredictable little buggers (so am I, I will admit, but then there are times I'm not terribly crazy about myself, either). I know people judge those who don't like animals (perhaps hate is too strong a word), but I'm okay with that. I have never had a slobbering, smelly dog in my home, and if I visit homes with pets in the family, they know damn well they had better keep their mangy beasts away from me.
I simply wanted to point out that there are plenty of us who are vegetarians for health reasons, not for any love of animals.

There are also environmental reasons for being vegetarian. Many say that raising meat is much more environmentally destructive than raising plants.
Oh, and, yes, sure, you're killing plants as a vegetarian, so those with an ethical argument are wrong for wanting to kill animals? Well, I guess by that logic, cannibalism is acceptable, too.
