UPDATED: Ausiello Q&As Kristen about Heroes, Lost and more!

Lost's loss is the Heroes gang's gain. Veronica Mars star Kristen Bell has been cast in what is being pegged as a "key multi-episode arc" for the second season of Heroes. Per Variety, Bell will first appear in October as Elle, "a sexy, mysterious young lady who (Spoiler alert) has ties to the supposed death of Peter, H.R.G.'s past and Claire's future. Landing the in-demand actress "was not easy to pull off," Heroes creator Tim Kring tells the trade. "But since we're an ensemble show, with many arcs playing out through the year, we found a way to jump into a small window in (Bell's) schedule."

Unreliable sources say Bell's Heroes alter ego has the power to utterly destroy a person with a witty retort.

Best casting news I've heard this season! Thanks, Matt.

As the firefly said when it backed into the fan, "I'm de-lighted!" I think Kristen Bell would have been a great addition to any show lucky enough to sign her. Now that Jason Dohring also has a new role (on the Angel clone Midnight), I'm hoping to hear good news about Enrico Colantoni too.

And if Kristen does join the Broadway cast of Legally Blonde, good luck to her there, too. I'd definitely plan a trip to NYC to see her and also David Hyde Pierce in Curtains.

It sounds to me that Kristen made a smart decision. Only doing a multi-episode arc instead of becoming a new regular on a show. I was actually not to excited about the new season of Heroes after last year's anticlimactic final five episodes. I mean I was always going to be watching but now I look forward to it.

And I think a year from now a lot more of America is going to know the name Kristen Bell because she is also starring in the next Judd Apatow produced movie which will make 30 Million opening weekend just because Apatow's name is on it.

I still hope that one day she can do a guest star stint on LOST. Like in a flashback similar to what Nathan Fillion did this past year.

Yeay! This is great news. I wonder if they'll be giving her any superpowers? That is, other than the one we all covet: the witty retort.

Poor NBC. Heroes is their number one show, and now Veronica Mars will be here to kill off the show. Shucks. ;)

If Sylar doesn't know that he should instinctively fear her, he will soon! So David Anders and Kristen Bell both on Heroes this season. Squee is right!

This is so awesome. My favorite actress joining my favorite show of last season?! It couldn't get any better! Well, unless Veronica mars returned. But since that's not happening, this will be fantastic.

This is awesome news! I couldn't be any happier for Kristen or Heroes...but is any one else worried that Heroes is getting a little carried away with all these supporting characters and story arcs? I mean what about the Haitian, Mrs. Petrelli, Mrs. Bennett, and Claude? Does this mean these characters/actors are going away? I know characters weave in and out of the show, but I just worry that we'll see less of our favorties.

Hey Matt, awesome "scoop", I'm sure Ausiello has his drawers in a bunch for not breaking the news before you. Some healthy competition can only be good for us readers. Anyway, I would have rathered Kristen on Lost, but Heroes will have to do!!!!!

Oh yippie, now when these episodes air she's all anyone will talk about on here. I thought I was done having to hear about how supposedly wonderful this little bland blonde is. Most people do not know or care who this chick is (personally I don't know a single person who watched her show.)

Wow. Who peed in your Cheerios? If you don't have anything nice to say, keep your mouth shut. It's okay to disagree and say you don't like the choice, but to personally attack a person you have never met smacks just a wee bit of jealousy (and possibly mental instability). Whether you like her acting or not, which, by the way is FANTASTIC, it's nice to see a young starlet in Hollywood who isn't drunk or drugged out all the time. Kristen Bell has class, and I, for one, am extremely happy for her success.

My name's Nancy, by the way. Now you know someone who watched her show.
