Gob out, Batman in as Knight Rider's KITT

"Michael, call our lawyers.... "

Will Arnett has been replaced as the voice of KITT in NBC's soon-to-premiere Knight Rider TV-movie/backdoor pilot. According to Variety, though Arnett had already recorded what I am sure was some deliciously dry dialogue, it came to light that because the Arrested Development alum has done voice-over work for General Motors — and KITT is "played" by a Ford Mustang — he'd have to graciously bow out.

Val Kilmer instead will lend his pipes to the shape-shifting upgraded supercar.

Val Kilmer? Really???

I love Wil Arnett and I'm kind of glad he's not going to associated with this misguided remake.

Also I heard Val Kilmer will be doing a cameo in the Ghostbusters remake as the Marshmallow Monster. He will also be starring in the Steven Segal Story. Seriously Val you can emulate and admire Marlon Brando without trying to look like him.

Val Kilmer starring in a bio pic - about Steven Seagal????

I....I..... just don't know what to make of that.

IIRC, the original KITT was a General Motors product, a Pontiac TransAm. Too bad for Will Arnett, I guess.

Val Kilmer, really?

...And there goes the only reason I had to tune in...
Oh, and it's GOB (an acronym for George Oscar Bluth), and not Gob... Just a thought...

It's kinda silly that they're worrying so much about the disembodied voice of a car, especially since the people in question don't really have particularly distinctive voices (like, say, William Daniels or someone like that). They probably should just save the money and pick someone cheaper who has a good voice. Val Kilmer won't even be recognizable without the audience being told it's him--he has many talents and interesting characteristics, but his speaking voice is dime-a-dozen.

Agree; would be interested to know why they didn't use WIlliam Daniels.

Maybe I'm being dumb but I don't understand why Arnett couldn't still do the voice. Is he under contract by GM?

Val Kilmer has a recognizable voice and, I personally, love almost anything he is attached to. Stinks for Will but the only thing I really dislike about this tidbit is that KITT is a Ford Mustang.

Wow, who knew you could lose a job just because of where you worked previously. this is almost like someone not getting hired at McDonalds just because it says on the application that the person once worked at Burger King. : )

Wait a minute....William Daniels is still alive, right? He was the original voice of Kitt? What's the problem? Call HIM. Forget Van Kilmer.

That's not exactly a fair comparison. Totally different levels of public recognition, which is the real problem they have in this case. Personally, I have no idea who Will Arnett is or if I'd recognize his voice without a face to match but I guess they're afraid a lot of people will.
