Knight Rider Puts Vegas Boss Behind the Wheel

KITT by Mitch Haddad/NBC Photo
Gary Scott Thompson, who gave us Las Vegas but also (and more relevant to this particular situation) penned Fast and the Furious, has inked a new two-year deal with NBCU, as part of which he will get behind the wheel at Knight Rider. Serving as show-runner, Thompson will executive-produce alongside Doug Liman, David Bartis and Dave Andron (who penned the backdoor pilot).

With action and effects being a major part of the rebooted series, it is hoped that Thompson and his Fast experience can ramp up the quality seen in the TV-movie. Now if he can just recruit Vanessa Marcil to give K.I.T.T. a soapy wash every week, I'm in! — MWM

Why? WHY? The Knight Rider movie was horrible. Like, Bionic Woman bad. Maybe worse (no Katee). Why would they turn that horribly written, poorly acted Ford commercial into a series?

It'd be better news if they decided to find a way to allow Will Arnette to voice KITT anyway...

But I guess this means it's officially coming back as a serious; maybe there's news that it had been decided, I hadn't seen anything.

I'll definitely give the show a chance; I didn't think it was a terrible; certainly not Bionic bad. I wasn't blown away, but it was okay.

...can ramp up the quality seen in the TV-movie.

Just goes to show how the word "quality" is a very subjective one. What I saw was an 82min. commercial/video for a car brand and nothing else redeeming whatsoever. Which seems to be what a lot of people confuse with harmless family fare. Personally, I care about my family too much to subject them to something so mind-numbing. But that's me.

Well if he puts on as good a show a Las Veags, well Knight Rider will be winning Emmys all over the place!

Okay I'm a day late with an April Fools joke. That Knight Rider movie blew bigger chunks than all the models at Fasion Week combined. And Las Vegas was one of the most forgettablle fluff shows ever. Not that there is anything wrong with fluff but it would be nice to at least aspire to be a little more.

Gary Scott Thompson is a good choice to be show-runner for KR.

Count me in with the people who actually did enjoy the movie and wouldn't mind watching the show every week. The movie was definitely a backdoor pilot in every sense of the word and I think it set up the series very well.

It is not Battlestar Galactica or Lost, but I can definitely say, as someone who was so excited about Bionic Woman and then completely disappointed despite Katee Sackhoff, KR is leagues better. It knows what it is, and it is not failing at trying to be some dark, brooding mess (or cluster-frak as Katee would say).

I would NEVER miss an episode!

Those that bash the reincarnation of Knight Rider obviously missed one very important thing that made it so worth watching:

THE HOFF.

Can't you see it now? Every time the show starts to take a ratings nosedive as its bound to do by episode 7, all they have to do is wheel out THE HOFF and have him give some patented pep talk to that other Michael (who we will call NOTHOFF) and it will all be worth it. Indeed, since when is just having THE HOFF around not enough to ensure longevity? Some people have no eye for quality.

Very good move by NBC to hire Gary Scott Thompson.

The Knight Rider movie was cheesy yet fun. I think Mr. Thompson will definitely make the new version entertaining and not take itself too seriously as he did with Las Vegas.

Why did they take Los Vegas off? There are a lot of questions unanswered. Why did Tom Selleck's charater fake his death? We never saw Danny's son born!
