Kevin Bacon Clears the Air About Footloose Remake

While speaking with Kevin Bacon about this Monday's episode of The Closer, where he once again directed wife Kyra Sedgwick, TVGuide.com asked for the actor's thoughts on the recently announced Footloose remake starring High School Musical's Zac Efron. "I've heard about it," says Bacon, "and it's great, but of course the truth is they're not really remaking the movie that I was in. They're remaking the Broadway musical [which premiered on the planks in 1998]."

In other words, what we have here is a situation exactly à la Hairspray, says Bacon. "You had a movie that was not a musical becoming a Broadway musical, and they make a movie of that."

Nonetheless, does Bacon find a certain added validation in that something he did so long ago keeps on dancing? With a near-chuckle, he answers, "Um, I can find validation other ways."

Look for my complete Q&A with Bacon in Monday's Interviews & Features.

So it won't be long before we see the movie version of the Broadway musical Xanadu, right?

I'm holding out for the movie from the musical Sound of Music. Will they incorporate all the audience participation? I'm giddy with nervous anticipation!

By the way...

Hee! Nice ending, MWM!

I saw Footloose on Broadway twice because I loved it so much, I'm thrilled! Can't wait to see the rest of the cast.

I'm looking forward to seeing the movie they are making on the musical Mamma Mia. So that does seem to be the current trendy thing.

Zac Efron is adorable. I haven't seen the musical version of Footloose, but if the interpretation is anything like Hairspray's it'll be a hit with me.

Footloose, the movie, is a classic to me. I saw it when it first came out and still puts a smile in my face. I liked the Broadway musical too and don't mind it being made into a film. As for Kevin Bacon, he is one of my favorite actors and he seems so cool.

There's only one Footloose, that's Kevins.

Is it just me or did he come across a little bitter and a tad pompous?

Of course, he is an actor... oh, excuse me... a cinematic conveyor of emotion...

I saw "Footloose on Ice" with Nancy Kerrigan.

I pray ever night this one is never made into a movie.

OK, I don't mean to be dense, but what exactly ARE the differences between the movie Footloose and the Broadway musical Footloose? The movie Footloose I've seen about 100 times, and the Broadway musical I've obviously never seen.

If I remember right (it's been years since I've seen the Broadway show), the show took all the songs from the movie, as well as some new ones, and incorporated them into things that the characters sang, rather than just being soundtrack music. I don't think the actual plot was altered. Personally, I hated it, and I'm a huge Broadway fan.
