Kelly Clarkson Apologizes, Regrets Public "Feud"
Kelly Clarkson by Kevin Mazur/WireImage.com
My boss is no Clive turkey. That's the gist of a statement posted by Kelly Clarkson to her fansite, in the wake of media coverage casting the wholesome American Idol in an unflattering light. "There has been quite a bit of controversy surrounding [my new album]... much of which has focused on a supposed feud with my record label, in particular, Clive Davis," Kelly writes. "I want to set the record straight by saying that I want my band, my advisors, those close to me and my record label to be one big, tightly knit family. [We] will disagree and argue sometimes, but, in the end, it's respect and admiration that will keep us together."
Most recently, Kelly seemingly dissed Davis by deeming him "80" years old and thus out of touch with her audience. Clarkson calls press accounts "blown out of proportion" and "taken out of context," saying, "I'm well aware that Clive is one of the great record men of all time. He has been a key advisor and an important force in my success to date.... I really regret how this has turned out and I apologize to those whom I have done disservice.... I love music, and I love the people I am blessed to work with." Not loved, though? The guy she takes to task in "Never Again."

Too little too late. But I suppose the lackluster sales, public reception and radio play to her mediocre album is punishment enough for her ego and big mouth as of late.

You know, I underestimated this topic. At first I thought it was no big deal, Clarkson had built up enough good will to survive a bad album and once it fell short she’d fall back in line having learned her lesson.
What I didn’t really appreciate was how much Kelly’s success has been built on that perception of her that many of us had as a sort of shy, well mannered girl. I think her behavior on American Idol made her seem very gracious and appreciative about her success and those who had helped her obtain it. Heck, her first album was even named “Thankful”
Now that she’s running around acting spoiled and giving “Avril-esque” quotes it seems that initial perception of her has been replaced by one that a lot of people don’t like. It’s sort of like (to use an AI example) the contestants who bad mouth Simon and then find themselves in the bottom 2 that week.
Sadly, I’m not sure that is damage you can undo. I’m sure her career will still continue and I suspect she will still have some modest success but I think her behavior here has hurt her irreparably and I don’t think anyone will ever see Kelly Clarkson the same again.

(I'm going to retract what I said earlier)
The thing is that her album debuted at no. 2, that's not saying that it did bad, she just sold a couple less copies than her last album. To me, It was one of those situations where she ssid some things that she shouldn't have said and now she's trying to back track it and trying to undo the "damages" that she did. Don't bite the hand that feeds you. Now the album is another story. If it did bad, it would've peaked in at #20. I think that the only reason the album did as "good' as it did was because of "Never Again". It sounds completely different from her previous music, and it turned some people off because it sounded angry. She was willing to take a chance with it and she did, but the end result wasn't as significant, so this is what she's stuck with. Was it a dumb move, was it a smart move? I don't know, only time will tell.

Give me a break, people, except you unscrewed--I agree with you. To my American fellow citizens, you cannot expect Kelly Clarkson to make great albums all the time. I cannot believe what Clive Davis says about the new album. Get a life, Mr. Davis. Not all of us are perfectionists or professionals. Kelly is still young enough to make some great material. Give her time. She may have won the first season of American Idol, but you cannot expect her to make platinum albums every time she goes into a studio.

Personal, I respect the few in the music industry brave enough to pursue their music vision irrespective of the sales impact. Kelly seems to fit that mold and I can respect that. In fact I've liked what I've heard of the new stuff more, so I think she is on to something.

Interesting how this is coming out today, on the day that she is singing a duet with Reba on the Country Music special. A duet with Reba is one of the best gifts an aspiring singer could receive.
I have a feeling Miss Reba sat her down and had a nice 'talk' with her, and essentially told her to straighten up, fix what she screwed up, and don't bite that hand that feeds you! Would have loved to be a fly on the wall for that conversation!
You can't go around bad mouthing musical legends, and expect to get anywhere in the business. She is a very talented girl, and I hope that she continues to make beautiful music, and then remembers when to zip it!

From what I've read, My December sold the same amount in its first two weeks that Breakaway sold in its first two weeks. Hardly means it's doing badly.
