Can Kelly Bounce Back from Her Latest Setback?
Kelly Clarkson by Rick Diamond/WireImage.com
Kelly Clarkson has scrapped her planned summer concert series, saying, "[T]ouring is just too much too soon" — this in the wake of well-chronicled clashes with her label and manager, and the so-so debut of "Never Again," the first single from her new album. The reason for the bail-out is the American Idol's failure to fill the arenas she was booked into. "Ticket sales have not been what we anticipated," LiveNation's CEO says in a statement. "We came to the realization that we had bit off more than we could chew."
The wholesale axing of the tour (rather than a scaling-back of venues) stunned the music biz. "To cancel the entire thing is a lot surprising," Billboard analyst Keith Caulfield tells TVGuide.com. "But considering the chain of events that have been happening for Kelly, at the same time it's like, 'Oh, here's another thing that's happened to her.' Things haven't been working out very well for this project from the get-go."
The disappointing tour interest stems in part from Clarkson's choice for her first single. "['Never Again'] really doesn't do very well in Top 40 radio," Caulfield notes. "It's fine to have 'screw you' songs, but perhaps it was too angry. There isn't a dash of hip-hop in it. It was an 'interesting' choice."
Can Clarkson bounce back from this rash of setbacks? Caulfield is more likely to wager on the Idol's resurgeance versus, say, Britney's. "I've heard that Kelly's new album is 'good' — though it's darker and more rock [than her previous CD] — so her next single could be an enormous success. This could be just a bump in the road."

"...we had bit off more than we could chew..."
They seriously don't teach grammar anymore, do they? (Well, I guess if you elect a President who says, 'NUCULAR'...!)

I hope she re-thinks the tour and reschedules some of it, at least in a city near me because my 5-year-old desperately wants to see Kelly in concert!! I personally love her new song and we have the date marked on the calendar so we can buy the CD to put with her other 2 in the car on our road trips. I think Clive needs to pay more attention to her and publicize her more and it wouldn't help if she had some strong people on tour with her to encourage the ticket sales as well, but I would love to see her in concert and I think she still has great things to come in the future! She is a brilliant song writer, singer and person.

jlittlejohn, maybe she'll do what I believe Madonna did early in her career (I may be wrong...going on my increasingly faulty memory these days)...put on a show in a major city where she KNOWS she'll have a sizeable audience, then release that concert on video (DVD) so fans will get the Kelly Clarkson Live experience.
I'm not a KC fan, but I don't know how ANYONE new puts on a decent stadium show at the costs it takes to stage such an event these days. Ticket prices are unrealistic, but that seems to be what it takes to put on a halfway decent show.
I hope your child gets to see Kelly live someday. Maybe a concert with three or four top Idols would satisfy everyone. Why not have Kelly, Clay and Ruben tour together. They could have faux-judges on the stage as part of the "shaux". That could be fun for fans!

People seem to forget that "Breakaway" was the first single off of Kelly's last album. The juggernaut, "Since U Been Gone", was the SECOND, and it was THAT song that shot her through the roof.
Give the best damn pop singer PERIOD a chance. Anything's better than having to hear Rihanna go "ELLA ELLA ELLA ELLA ELLA ELLA ELLA ELLA ELLA" over and f'in over again.

Poor Kelly! I'll still buy her album. The American Idol tour seems to be the only hot show this summer. How sad. I love Rihanna! "Ella, ella, ella, hey, hey, under my umbrella". She's the new sh*t right now and Kelly isn't. Kelly will be fine. I think...

I love Kelly and hope things will all work out for her. I also love our President, whether he says nucular or not. There are many more important things that being grammatically correct. Character and integrity go much farther. So...go Kelly! Go W!

Her duet with Reba McEntire is quickly moving up the country charts. They remade Kelly's hit "Because of You" as a duet. Worse case scenario, she could go country. She would probably do well.

If Kelly Clarkson's manager is the braintrust who decided how and when her tickets go on sale, then she did well by firing him. All tickets for all of her shows, whether in 6 weeks or 6 months, went on sale the same day. Unless you're the Stones, U2, or The Police, you're ticket sales are not going to gel until you get closer to the concert date.

I said it before!!
KC is only a pretty face that made believe by AI that she could be a singer.
After the curiosity past, she will slowly fade to the background like what is happening now!

I wonder if she's dropping out of the Live Earth concert at Giants Stadium too...I think that was wrapped up within her tour...Not really aching to see her or anything, I'm just curious...
Oh, and HAHAHAHAH @ the Rihanna/ELLA ELLA comment above...I DESPISE that song. She actually dropped out of the concert and I couldnt be happier.

I bought tickets as a gift for my cousin's 13th Bday and I was excited to hear Mat Kearney open for her. This stinks!

I'm sorry; do people really take 5 year old children to concerts for teens and young adults? I could maybe see taking a 12 year old...
I'm 25 and I'd consider going to a KC concert if the tickets were reasonable. When I was 5, I went to things like the Elephant Show in Concert. Isn't there anything like that for kids now?

Sorry to hear that the concerts are canceled. I DO plan on buying her new CD. I totally enjoyed seeing her in concert last Summer...a "gift" from my youngest 19 year old daughter. My 3 year old granddaughter knows all of Kelly's songs by heart.
"john" blah blah blah If you don't like Kelly or her music, turn the radio/tv OFF. That's all ya have to do.
In MY opinion, I enjoy watching Kelly perform and listening to her songs.
