Katie Holmes: GMA Denies that SoftbalI Q&A Was Cruise-controlled

ABC's Good Morning America is in damage-control mode after Diane Sawyer failed to ask Katie Holmes any questions about the controversial (if shoddily sourced) "tell-all" that made headlines last week when it posited, among other things, that Suri is actually the progeny of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard (via insemination with Walt Disney'd sperm). "[Sawyer] had every intention of going there," GMA executive producer Jim Murphy insists to the New York Daily News. "But like always, Diane wants to produce creative elements, clips of her early life, spring surprises and have some fun." Such fun elements — including video of Holmes in a school play — ultimately sucked up the eight minutes allotted to the sitdown. "It was one of those bad calls on my part," Murphy admits to Page Six. "Diane doesn't generally get angry, but she was disappointed in how I handled it, yes."

Watch video of Katie's similarly homogenized appearance on Regis & Kelly.

I saw this interview. It was so lame.

I didn't see the GMA interview but I did see Holmes on Regis and Letterman. Both shows seemed to give her very polite and kind interviews - suspiciously so. Neither showed breached any touchy questions at all.

I've enjoyed Katie since her days on the Creek and was interested to see for myself if she has changed since her infamous marriage. Holmes has been on both shows numerous times over the past ten years and seems comfortable with both hosts, so I thought it would be a good meter of past and present.

Maybe it's just my imagination, but she seemed to have lost some of her sparkle. It could just be "maturity" on her part, but it seemed like someone had hijacked her personality. I'd hate to see her sassy personality removed along with the thetans.

You're right. It's almost as if she's trying to get her voice to match her new sophisticated look.

What amazes is me is, even if Diane Sawyer or someone else were able to ask Katie Holmes - or any other actor - the "tough" questions, what makes you think they're going to tell the truth anyway?

DOn't get me wrong - I don't believe this nonsense that Suri is some kind of alien baby, but unless they are under oath, just because a celebrity opens their mouth doesn't mean the truth shall spew forth.

Katie is totally adorable, but I still can't believe she married a complete LOON like Tom Cruise, she could have done so much better.

What would be the point to ask, though? Katie's just going to give the standard denials they've given dozens of times before. "It's all lies," "we're very happy," blah, blah, blah. It's not like she's going to admit anything.

Oh puh-leez! Nothing about that softball interview was a mistake. GMA knew if they ticked off Tom Cruise it would be the last time he'd let Katie (and yes, I meant to say "let") be interviewed there or come there himself. Of course all that stuff about Suri is nonsense, but if it had been anyone else, Diane would have brought it up anyway if only to ask how they deal with such ludicrous stuff being written about their child.

Frankly it is nobody's business who Suri's biological father is. Not mine and not Diane Sawyer's. Why should Katie ever have to respond to such a story in a book which is tabloidish?

Even if they used artificial insemination with Hubbard's sperm or the pool boy's sperm, it is nobody's business except Tom, Katie and eventually Suri. She has two parents who love her and that is all anyone really needs to know.

I am not even a Cruise or Holmes fan and I do think they belong to what is probably a cult, but just because you can ask a question doesn't mean you should or that the person has to answer you.

Katie is out there promoting her silly movie. She isn't running for President.

We are huge Diane Saywer fans and we watch GMA over the other morning shows because of Diane and Robin.(we miss Charlie also)
Being the veteran reporter and with the reputation that Diane has,her anger over this should simply reveal that someone did not do their job.
I think Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are over rated and no matter what rumors fly ,true or untrue, they had lost us as fans a long time ago.
In America everyone can believe as they wish and have their views. At the same time in America ,we as fans don't have to like it or pay money to see those who think that their views make them the elite!

I'm not one to buy into all the crazy conspiracy theories about these two, but I have to admit that Katie has lost that sparkle she used to have. Sure maturity happens and you grow up, but that doesn't seem to be the case here. I want so bad to believe that Tom and Katie are happy, happy, happy but it's hard when I see her in an interview like this.

Um nanaoz, this is an ENTERTAINMENT AND TV website. There are places to discuss the issues in the world today, many of which we all go to. While I somewhat understand the arguments made by those who complain that TVGuide doesn't write enough about TV, your argument is almost as ridiculous as your grammar.

You don't have to lose your sparkle just because you get older.
If you know who Dyan Cannon is you'll know what I'm talking about. She' 71 now and has the best smile and laugh in the business.

Give me a break! Why would Katie H. give power to that idiot A. Morton by discussing his allegations? Ignoring fairytale rumours is the best way to deflate them. But of course Diane Sawyer (ugh) goes for the throat every time in her ever lasting quest for ratings. Suri is a spitting image of Tom and Katie. This allegation is so ridiculous that you might as well say Suri was sent here from another planet. And of course Diane S. should have had enough common sense to not even think about broaching that subject. Katie and Tom are power houses, talented, georgeous, and seem to be really nice caring people which is why they are constantly attacked. Some people just can't stand anyone to be as successful and happy as they are. I say keep on keeping on and wish you the best life has to offer.

Of course Diane Sawyer and Regis and Kelly (and others) all soft-balled Katie Holmes in her interviews. That is because they knew the so-called rumors are true, but far too hot of a topic to be handled on TV, especially on morning TV. I have known about L. Ron Hubbard being the biological father of Suri since before she was born. Most people with any personal knowledge of the Cruises know this.
