Eli Stone Producers Put Their "Faith" in Katie Holmes

Ah, the joys of stunt casting.

In an effort to draw buzz and new eyeballs to ABC's little critical darling that could, Eli Stone, producers have brought Katie Holmes on board for at least one episode of the show's sophomore season. The gig will be a reunion of Holmes and Stone's executive producer Greg Berlanti from their days on Dawson's Creek. ABC Entertainment prez Steve McPherson let it slip that Holmes will even sing and dance in the episode.

So, do you have "faith" in Mrs. Cruise? — Adam Bryant

I love this show, so i say do anything to better the ratings. It worked with Spears on How I Met... so i hope it will work here too.

It might just work. She is not a bad actress. In most things, she is fun to watch. In Batman Begins, she was horribly miscast. But when she sticks to more light things, she does ok.

I'm interested in what kind of character she will be playing.

I am a BIG fan of Eli Stone, it is a show for all and I've commented before what a GREAT actor Jonny Lee Miller is! As for Katie, pulling in an audience if AOK with me since this show was on the bubble after is freshman season. She can act, not just a Dawson's Creek actor, but a full fledged actress in my book and it would be a joy to see her on the small screen again, even if just for a few episodes.

She's gorgeous as ever, and I hate to say anything negative about her, but... thinking back on it... I don't think I've ever heard her deliver a line that sounded really genuine. Maybe that was why she fit so well on Dawson's Creek. The dialog was written in such a non-realistic way. It was perfect for her. She's just so hot that one kind of forgives her for her lack of acting talent. Plus we all know her "fairy-tale" marriage is doomed (whether it takes a couple of years or several years) and the fact that she doesn't know that shows something about how naive she is.

Do we now?

Eli Stone is a great show that deserves more viewers. If Katie Holmes will bring more viewers to the show, than I'm ok with it.

Adam: "So, do you have "faith" in Mrs. Cruise?"

zortil: "Nope."

This is how I feel as well. I've never liked her in anything she's done--that I've seen. UNBELIEVABLE as the Joey character; TOTALLY miscast and horrible as Rachel in Batman Begins, and there was some other movie, which I can't recall. That's how much of an impression she made.

I'm frankly surprised Tom is letting her act. Seems I read a few years ago, that after BB, he didn't want her in anything that had violence, drugs or sex.

I love Eli Stone, so I hope this is just a one-fer.

Katie Holmes is not Britney Spears (whose appearence on Eli Stone would have made me drop the series like a "stone"), so I say go for it! (Almost)anything(within reason)to bring a few more eyes to Eli Stone would be welcome.

Hmmm... Jury's still out on that one. I've never really cared for her as an actress, but if it helps Eli Stone I'm all for it.

Why does the headline on the front page say, "Returns to TV for Creek creator"? Greg Berlanti didn't create Dawson's Creek. Kevin Williamson did. I could be wrong here, but I believe Berlanti didn't even join the show until the second season and let's face it, the first season of DC was by and far the best. Geez, you'd think the people at TV Guide would know a little something about television.
