Did Disney Drop Kathy Griffin Over Jesus Joke?

Comedian Kathy Griffin tells EW the Disney Channel fired her from the Hannah Montana series for her comments at last year's Creative Arts Emmys.

Upon winning the award, Griffin said, "Suck it, Jesus! This award is my god now!"

About her dismissal from the show, she took aim at star Miley Cyrus. "[She] has been flashing her green bra and posing topless. I was basically told, 'Disney doesn't want you anywhere near the building,'" Griffin said.

A Disney offiical told EW Griffin was fired from her guest role for creative reasons and not due to "comedy routines or public comments." — J.R. Whalen

How is this Kathy jumping on the Miley train? She was let go from a guest spot on the Miley show. I don't think that was her choice!

Granted, I don't know the timeline of events, as Hannah Montana and Kathy Griffin are not generally things I pay any attention to. But I do remember the "Suck it, Jesus" comment being in the media - a long, long time ago (last year, according to the article). But with my assumption that she was let go right away, and that Disney didn't have an FCC-inspired delayed reaction, why is she bringing it up now instead of then? 'Cause Miley's been in the news this week for her "scandalous" pictures.

Kathy Griffin is an annoying attention-starved gnat. How people find her in any way amusing or entertaining is beyond me and frankly, I think Hannah Montana could do a lot better than her. Like Gilbert Gottfried would be an upgrade in my opinion.

This wasn't a press release from Kathy. It was part of an interview where EW asked her about the controversies. She had something that related to them and so spoke about them. Why shouldn't she?

If you've ever seen Kathy's stand-up, you'd know she normally ties together her celebrity experiences with her life. It's part of why we who love her, well, love her.

It was just an off-handed remark anyway.

She didn't blame Miley. This article makes it seem that way. She's really pointing a finger at the producers. Most importantly, she's just making a simple joke.


One more thing, the EW article was factually incorrect. They said she'd never mentioned getting fired from Hannah Montana, but in fact Kathy did mention it about a month ago in a nymag.com interview.

And this posting doesn't mention that the whole article is about Kathy getting fired... it's not Kathy taking potshots at Miley.

Why anyone would find this woman amusing is beyond me. She is foul, vile, not the least bit funny, and the list goes on. But then again that is just my opinion and to each his own.

Gilbert Godfrey has already made a guest appearance! Kathy Griffin is an horrible actress and I daresay she would not be a good fit on something as light hearted as Hannah.
