Katherine Heigl: "Absolutely Staying" on Grey's
Katherine Heigl by Bob D'Amico/ABC
Remember all that stuff that Katherine Heigl has been saying about the quality of the writing on Grey's Anatomy and whether or not she deserved an Emmy nomination? If one were paranoid, one might think she was trying to get fired!
Well, if she was, it didn't work, as ABC Entertainment president Steve McPherson announced Wednesday that Heigl "is absolutely staying with the show." He hinted at an "unbelievable new storyline for Izzie that is central to the show," adding that series creator Shonda Rhimes would talk more about said storyline on Thursday, so stay tuned.
What do you think of Heigl's behavior: Is it biting the hand that feeds her or does it represent a head for shrewd business tactics? — Mickey O'Connor

She only told the truth about the poor writing for her character this past season. Was she trying to get fired or was she just trying to get decent material to work with? Her character just hasn't been very likable for quite a while now due to poor writing.

I did not ever take what she said as a slam against the writers. To me, it sounded like she did not have the story to submit to the Emmy's. Unfortunately, with a cast as large and incredibly talented at Grey's, occasionally someone has to be back burner. The big story for her was the George/Izzy love story, which fizzled with fans. I think that is what she was saying. I am glad she is staying.

He hinted at an "unbelievable new storyline for Izzie that is central to the show,"
I certainly hope that every character's storyline is central to the show. Despite its name, Grey's is an ensemble show, and it's poor management of the characters to have anyone relegated to non-essential stories.
The writers should be able to provide powerful or moving moments for everyone in the course of a season. If they're not, there's something wrong with what they're doing.
I look forward to them using Izzie properly again next season; I liked where the finale left her, having the clinic as her own and asserting herself as a good doctor after realizing she didn't need to run to Bailey about everything.

Boy, that's the truth.
She's not winning people over in real life either -- but she can't blame that on writers.
I don't know if I totally buy that statement from McPherson.
Here's how I read it:
Heigl "is absolutely staying with the show, RIGHT UP UNTIL THE EPISODE WHERE SHE DIES." He hinted at an "unbelievable new storyline for Izzie that is central to the show BECAUSE IT ENDS WITH HER BEING A STIFF," adding that series creator Shonda Rhimes would talk more about said storyline on Thursday, so stay tuned.
It's no secret that Heigl wants off the show. After her comment about the writers -- and I definitely think that was a swipe at the quality of the writing -- I imagine that Rhimes wants her off the show.
I used to like Heigl, but she has become smug since Knocked Up, a successful, popular movie which she later dissed -- not too classy, considering it single-handedly made her a viable movie star. Of course, to remain one, she'll have to do better than derivative piffle like 27 Dresses.

i'm sorry but ever since she's struck gold she's turned into a mega diva who really needs to keep her mouth shut. at first, i was on her side with her strong opinions over the whole TR Knight thing, but her recent comments on this past season and her movie, Knocked Up, was what i like to call PIG-ish. She's turned into mega diva and i'm continually losing respect for her. She's gorgeous on the outside but the inside is truly flawed.

Heigl "dissing" Knocked Up is the only reason I do still respect her. She only told the truth.
This woman's only problem is her blunt honesty, which is sort of refreshing.

If you will look at my old comments you will know that I am generally a positive person who stands up for the writers/blog writers here(because seriously, why do people gripe about stuff?)
But can we give this a rest? Please!?Its been talked to death over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. I can't imagine that anyone's opinions have changed one iota since this first happened - like what two months ago?
Please. Pretty please.
And yes, I see the irony in my own statement.

She's definitely biting the hand that feeds her! Could Katherine Heigl be the household name she is today with Grey's Anatomy? We'll never know for sure but it's obvious that she got where she is today because of the show. And although I can see her point (Hello? Anyone recall reviving a deer? Gizzie?) I think she could have come up with a better way to handle it or have gone to Shonda first to discuss it.

I find Katherine Heigl delightfully candid and upfront.
Critics and fans hated Gizzie. No one though Izzie was in an interesting story the past year. It's refreshing to have an actress who's in tune with her audience and sees things from their perspective. I'm glad she didn't try to gloss over and give some BS PR statement about how she liked it.
I also really liked that she came right out initially and stood up for TR Knight.

Keep her on Grey's!!! That way she'll suffer some more until her contract is up. ">

Katherine Heigl is acting like a spoiled brat. She should be thanking her agent every day for getting the Grey's Anatomy job. Without Shonda Rhimes Katherine would still be best known for being Gerard Depardieu's daughter.
