This Just In... Anchorwoman Is Out

070824anchorwoman.jpg
Anchorwoman's Lauren Jones by Joe Viles/Fox
Sometimes — and it's a funny thing — I write more about a show when it gets the ax than I ever did before it hit the air. Case in point: Fox has declared Anchorwoman to be yesterday's news, spiking the "buxom beauty braves the news-reporting airwaves" series less than a Nicole Richie jail stay after its debut. (Anchorwoman premiered a distant fourth place in its Wednesday time slot, averaging a skimpy 2.7 million viewers.) The remaining seven episodes will be available on the Fox on Demand section of Fox.com.

Moral: People don't want to get their news from pretty people. They want it from me.

Of course we want to get our news from you, Matt! You're both good-looking AND smart.

This was one of the dumbest ideas to come down the pike and I do NOT see how it got green-lighted to begin with.

Eh, I actually found the premiere episodes entertaining. They were edited with a 100% comedic slant, and it really was a strange hybrid of reality and workplace comedy. I'll watch the burn-off episodes online if I get bored; it was hardly the blight on humanity that most Fox reality programming is.

The devilish smile is what makes you look like Julian McMahon -

While I watched the show, I thought they should have named it "Borat with Boobs".

Everything seemed forced, contrived, and set up. I didn't believe her as a stupid bimbo - she seemed too smart for that. I know that's a strange statement, but I thought she was playing an idiot as opposed to being one.

I would like to know how things actually went while she was on the air in Tyler.

"Borat with Boobs"

Isn't that what the Borat film was?

That actually was a reality show? C'mon, it seemed scripted to me. People's reactions were just too perfect, starting the barely hidden resentment of the anchorwoman that was being shoved aside, the station manager pushing his "brilliant" idea of a ratings stunt and ignoring the objections of his news staff, etc. At one point you could hear someone complain about not being miked for the newscast and yet we could hear her perfectly. If this was actually a reality show, were people forced to wear two mikes, one for the show and one for the newscast?

If you watched "Anchorwoman" the same way you watch "The Office", it was actually quite entertaining!

I couldn't believe it when afterwards I found out there really is a CBS Channel 19 in Tyler, TX and that all the people are apparently real. Even so, it's still hard for me to believe the show was not scripted.

Oh boy, I actually liked this show! I guess, as usual, I am in the minority.

You're pretty on the inside Matt and don't let Ausiello tell you any different. ;)

That show was terrible. After 25 minutes I shut it off. I couldn't take anymore.

That's too bad. I never even got the chance to sample this show. I hope they try it on MyNetworkTv.
