J.J. Abrams' Fringe Goes on Casting Binge
Kirk Acevedo by Maury Phillips/WireImage.co
Kirk Acevedo (The Black Donnellys Oz) and Mark Valley (Boston Legal) have joined the cast of Fox's Fringe, a $10 million sci-fi pilot from Lost boss J.J. Abrams that concerns a female FBI agent who works with an institutionalized scientist to investigate unexplained phenomena. Both actors are playing FBI agents.
A Warner Bros. rep tells TVGuide.com there is nothing to report yet regarding the casting of the two leads.

JJ's track record just isn't that good. He's so ADD -- he left Alias and it degenerated into a mess. We're lucky that Team Darlton was in place before JJ left Lost for the next big thing. I'll go on a limb and state that Fringe will have an all out, killer first season, with amazing storylines, character development, cinematography and music. Then JJ will leave before the second season goes into production and the whole thing will crumble into an unrecognizable heap,

Maybe he should stick to movies?

I gotta ask, what pilots? I thought that there won't be pilots for a while with the strike. I thought everything has ground to a halt.

I liked this show...when it was called The X-Files. I mean...sheesh. I like JJ and look forward to his interpretation of this, but come on, call it what it is...a redo of X-Files.

sdelmonte - good point. I'm more concerned about what they're going to do about the strike and how it's affecting the established programs I watch now.
A commentator on CNN the other said that if the strike isn't resolved soon, might as well say goodbye to next year's season as well.

JJ's track record ROCKS. "Alias" = great show. "Lost" = arguably even greater. "Felicity" = a completely different thing, yet still a wonderful show.
Hardcore fan geeks freak out when producers leave after the first couple of years and diagnose "ADD" -- ignoring the fact that this is not unusual. People act like JJ was full-time involved with "Lost" and then left it, when in fact that was NEVER his relationship with the show -- he created it and got it started, with everyone involved aware that he wasn't going to be a full-time showrunner. Essentially, pretty much anybody who bashes JJ (a) does not understand how TV works and (b) has zero appreciation for how much higher the level of characterization/cinematography/plot complexity is on JJ's shows than it is on 95% of what's on TV. The whine-griping annoys me no end, particularly when it comes from a place of ignorance.
That said, this does sound a bit X-Filey to me, but some projects that sound very alike in the one-sentence pitch can be extremely different in execution, so I'm hyped to see what will result.
And I loved "Alias" well into its fifth season. Most shows at their BEST don't rise even to that level.

OMG! The principal female lead MUST go to Kristen Bell. 'Nuff said.

JJ would not duplicate the X-Files. Show a little faith in a man that has showed his creative genius many times through the works of LOST, FELICITY, and ALIAS and sit back and wait for a show that will undoubtedly be awesome!
Good grief, look at all the complainers and the pen hasn't even hit paper yet!

JJ is overhyped and it's starting to show. Although I will thank him for Lost as well as leaving it in the hands of "Darlton".

Although I admit this plotline does sound suspiciously Files-ish, I love what JJ has done in the past, and I'm definitely going to check it out.
That, and I have kind of a teensy-weensy little TV crush on Keen Eddie - I mean, Mark Valley.

Ranger, du-ude, lighten up! C'mon - it does sound an awful lot like the X-Files, though, doesn't it? Not necessarily a bad thing....
My comment about sticking to movies is that I'm really looking forward to Cloverfield. Shees -
Sorry, just have issues with people who refer to celebe by their first name, like they actually personally know the person.

Sounds like a fun show. But it is Fox so then will micromanage it to death and when it does not become a number 1 show in a month, they will cancel it.
Remember Firefly?
