Live Commercials on Kimmel in May

Live commercials will be a part of Jimmy Kimmel Live (Weeknights at 12:05 pm/ET, ABC) beginning in May.

Not every spot will be live, but hopes are high that they will stand out from the rest and make viewers less trigger-happy with their TV remotes.

Last year, the Tonight Show With Jay Leno aired a live commercial and intends to do so again later this year.

Will you give the remote a rest to see how live commercials play out? — J.R. Whalen

Uncle Frank and Guillermo have been doing commercials on Jimmy Kimmel Live for at least the past year. Some of them are posted on YouTube. They may not have been live, but some of them certainly seemed live-to-tape (translation: bad).

I'm used to politicians announcing and re-announcing things that have already happened, but not our Jimmy! ;)

Commercials are commercials, live or not, so I either skip them when watching a recorded show, or mute them or change channels when watching a live show. I HATE commercials, especially in the 5-7 minute breaks that seem more and more common, so I ALWAYS avoid them. And product placements and/or swirling ads DURING the show make me boycott those products!!! We have enough advertising rammed down our throats as it is, so I don't care if the commercial is live or recorded, I will avoid it.

They'll be as LIVE as "Jimmy Kimmel Live" is every night here on the West Coast. If anything bad (read: more entertaining) happens, it will be surely edited out when it hits us here. If anyone has ever seen some of the edits SNL has done from East Coast live shows (usually replacing messed up skits with those from dress rehearsals), they know that the East Coast has it good, but the West Coast will always be restricted from seeing anything but exactly what ABC wants us to see. Don't get me wrong, I like Kimmel's show and I'm always game for pushing the envelope, but I'm so tired of these "amazing" ideas that only really affect the East Coast. If something goes in the dumper live - I want to see the same thing aired here in the West!

If it's any consolation, NotMe, Jimmy Kimmel Live hasn't been live in the east in years, either. We can thank Janet Jackson's idiotic wardrobe malfunction for that!
