It's Official: Jimmy Fallon Gets Late Night Nod from NBC

As expected, comedian Jimmy Fallon will host Late Night (12:30 am/ET, NBC) when Conan O'Brien moves to the Tonight Show in 2009.

Fox News.com reports NBC won't make the official announcement until next month, but word leaked out today about the Saturday Night Live alum.

Fallon's late-night coronation is part of what could be a late-night TV sea change in 2009. Rumors are swirling that current Tonight Show host Jay Leno has been courted by other networks about launching a new nighttime talker after he steps down next year. — J.R. Whalen

I won't be watching this. When I do get a chance to watch the late late shows, I'll go with Craig Furguson! The guy is hilarious.

Fallon's show will be cancelled quicker than Chevy's.

I thought he was funny as the anchor of weekend update.

I would give him a chance!

Um, wow. Good news for Craig Ferguson, unless Letterman exits around the same time and he takes the 11:30 Late Show. When it comes to W.U. alumni, Tina Fey would have been a much better choice if she weren't already employed...

I can see his style similar to that Chris Farley SNL character with the constant "remember when...?" questions.:_|

I like Jimmy Fallon and am willing to give him a chance. Some of these comments about how he'll do bad remind me of what people said when Leno took over for Carson and look how that turned out.

I don't know, I kind of think Conan O'Brien is one of the funniest people alive so it's hard to imagine anyone following in his footsteps.

Maybe Craig Kilborn should come back to late night. I always loved The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn. It was like hanging out with a good friend that you shared a ton of inside jokes with. I miss Five Questions and Yambo! I know some people don't like his cocky nature but I always thought that was the best part of schtick. Plus, considering most of Conan's humour is self-deprecating, it'd be a great balance.

Funny you mention Kilborn(I liked him too). But most people thought The Daily Show would tank with him gone and now a lot of people forget he was the original host. If he does a good job, he does a good job. If not they'll get someone else. I'm willing to give him a chance.

I will not be watching either show. I have a great fear of Conan being Leno-ized and losing his funny.

Too bad Ferguson can't replace Leno, but I'd hate to see him more restrained like Conan will be.

Could be worse though... Carson Daley?

I don't usually watch the Late Shows, but I did enjoy Jimmy when he did Weekend Update on SNL. I hope he can he can do it!

Great, now we'll all be treated to Fallon looking into the camera and laughing every night.

Now that his movie career is a bust, he's going to late, late night. Fallon is a no-talent hack.

11:30 kills comedy. WIth the exception of Carson, Letterman was funnier at 12:35, Leno was funnier on Letterman at 12:35, and Conan will be homoginized and less funny at 11:30 too.Letterman made the transition well (still not as good as Late Night was) i just dont see Conan doing the same. The funniest parts of Conan are the stuff that wouldn't make it at 11:30. 75 year old grandmas and soccer moms don't like absurd comedy, thats why leno wins the ratings. Good luck to everyone though.
