J.Lo Bitten in the Butt with $5 Million Lawsuit
Jennifer Lopez by Kevin Mazur/ WireImage.com
Jennifer Lopez is in the legal doghouse, facing a $5 million lawsuit which claims that her guard dog bit a flight attendant some two years ago.
Per the New York Daily News, NetJets' Lisa Wilson was working a Gulfstream flight in July 2006 when J.Lo boarded with "Floyd," whom the singer described to airplane personnel as "a well-behaved guard dog." Lopez briefed the crew on how best to behave around the German shepherd, yet when Wilson walked by the pooch, he began "attacking her and biting her [polyester?] pant leg."
Wilson in turn "twisted and fell," injuring her back so badly she had to undergo surgery and now can no longer fly skies friendly or otherwise.
The suit claims J.Lo is liable for all injuries because she knew of her dog's "vicious propensities." Matt Mitovich

Ok wait a minute. Was the dog in a cage or loose on the flight? Because who in the world leaves their dogs loose on an airplane? Was it a private plane?

Why was the dog allowed to sit in the passenger area? Is JLo handicapped in some way that she would need a dog sitting next to her on the plane?
BTW Matt, good one! Polyester

NetJets is a private aircraft service. You don't really think that Jenny from the block would fly - I shudder to think - commercial!

You people are funny. Do you HONESTLY think that JLO flies the friendly skies in a commercial jet? Really... NetJet is a private company (owned by Warren Buffett I think) and if you have enough moolah to lease one I don't think they care where your pooch plants his butt. Polyester...hehehe....still laughing about that one.

Can't you bring your dog (in a cage, I imagine) in the passenger area on a commercial flight if you buy it a ticket? I've never flown with an animal, but I could have sworn I heard someone talking about it once.

Even on a private jet, JLo sould have had the dog in a cage. That said, I hope JLo's team blows this out of the air if it's as bad as it smells. I'm HIGHLY suspicious that this person received such a grave injury. I bet if it was Joey Baggadonuts who saved up enough money to hire the jet to take him and his dog on vacation that the stewardess would have been back to work and maybe sued the guy for any medical expenses and lost wages, if that, and that's all. I think the stewardess fell and instead of seeing little birds fluttering around her head she saw giant $ signs. JLo should have to pay any medical and lost wages, but the stewardess should be evaluated by doctors that JLo provides as well as independent doctors that the court provides. I hate it when celebs think that they can do whatever they want and get off when they do wrong, or are seemingly given preferential treatment when they do, but I also don't like it when people try to bilk rich people or companies with questionable claims. Just my opinion.

Did you all miss the "had to undergo back surgery" part? One does not undergo back surgery on a whim. JLo was at fault for many reasons, not the least of which is thinking a guard dog is well behaved yet the crew has to be briefed on how to act around it. The attack was unprevoked and she needs to pay up for her stupidity.

How can you not be just a little bit suspicious when a plaintiff waits until the 2yrs. to file has almost expired to bring action against a defendant.
Not that I have any idea what sort of "pain and suffering" might have taken place, I'm just sayin'.....

Hmmm. She waited two years to file the lawsuit. Was she in a coma? Looking for the right lawyer? Waiting until she no longer worked for the private airline to file? Or just outta work looking for a quick payday?
Honestly, if the dog had bit me JLO would have been paying my doctor bills from day one, and paying me for emotional anguish from 2006 until doomsday.
JLo should have left the dog on a nice kennel farm where he could run free until she came back from wherever.
Is this dog still in the JLO family and around her new offspring?
Makes you go hmmmmmm

This kind of case is highly suspect. How do we know the incident went down the way the plaintiff says? How do we know she hurt her back in this incident and not during some previous or subsequent one? What kind of back surgery did she have? What are the reputations of her doctors? What were her expected lifetime earnings in that job to warrant $5 million? We don't have enough information to judge, but I'm always suspect of these types of cases. From the experience of my 26 years of working in private investigation, I can tell you that these personal injury lawsuits are often some of the biggest scams around. They should fall under the classification of "crimes of opportunity." What usually happens is that the defendant pays to make it go away - which is exactly what the plaintiff had in mind to begin with.

Katcon, and therein lies the pointlessness in having us all comment on the merits of the case. We definitely don't know any of those questions, so it's just idle speculation on our part. I was thankful when I first read this article that MVM didn't add one of those questions that all TVG news articles seem to have these days - If he'd added one ("Do YOU think JLo knew about her dog's vicious propensities?"), I'd have smacked my head on my desk.
Lopez briefed the crew on how best to behave around the German shepherd
For all we know, THAT means she asked people to not feed him people food.

BOZMAN54, you hit the nail on the head. I find it hard to believe someone would go through back surgery and rehab just to file a lawsuit that doesn't have an assured outcome.
J Lo is well known as a ruthless diva. So the circumstances probably have lots of merit in favor of the flight attendant.
As for waiting 2 years, perhaps like a normal person she was afraid of taking on a big celebrity with tons of money to pay for a dream legal team. After having employement issues and probably draining some savings (did you people miss that she can no longer perform her job?) she may have figured she had nothing left to loose. Who knows, but that seems like a plausible reason.
Celebs need to learn they can't just step on the little people and get away with it. This doesn't sound at all like one of those frivolous lawsuits.

Dianora - I'm not sure about current regs, but in the past you could bring a very small non-service dog into the cabin of a commercial jet in some type of approved carrier. It has to fit under the seat and there can only be one animal per cabin.
And, hon? Don't smack your head on the desk 'cause of the noodle-headed TVGuide questions. That would lead to some type of traumatic brain injury. Well, then again, you could then sue TVGuide and reap millions!!!!
