Jamie Lynn Is Engaged, Y'all!

People.com is reporting that 16-year-old Jamie Lynn Spears is engaged to her 18-year-old boyfriend Casey Aldridge.
The magazine's sources indicate that she has been showing off an engagement ring to friends all over Louisiana and Mississippi. No word on a wedding date, but the happy couple will, of course, welcome their first child this summer. — Mickey O'Connor

I hope she's not getting married just because of societal pressures about the baby having married parents. That will just create more problems for all three of them down the road. If she's really happy with this Aldridge chap and is wise enough to decide at 16 to tie her life to him, well, all the power to her.

Please. She'll be divorced by the time she's 18, if the Hollywood marriage divorce rate is anything to go by. She has, after all, big sis Brit to look up to.

I don't know the laws of California or Louisiana...but she was pregnant at 15 and he was 17...isn't this considered statuatory rape of a minor?

She has ALREADY "tied" her life to him, she's having his baby. If she wasn't ready to get married then she shouldn't have slept w/ him in the first place. Getting married is the right thing for them to do. A child should have two MARRIED parents!

Why, because the parents being married has something to do with the quality of the child's life? I think any child of divorced parents (and you're talking to one right here) would tell you that his or her life wasn't positively enhanced by having parents who were not happy together. I now have FOUR married parents, two sets who are in happy relationships, and my only wish is that they'd done it earlier than they had. Jamie Lynn and her boyfriend should be concentrating on their commitment to their CHILD, and not forcing a commitment to EACH OTHER, if that's what they're doing.

I'm very glad that I'm an optimistic person, and that I don't write people off after one mistake....
Sure, she made a mistake. It happens. Give her a chance to make things right. Forcing your child to marry is sure as hell not the answer. That will only cause the child to suffer further. The happiness and safety of the child is what's important here.

I live in Louisiana about 2 1/2 hrs. away from Kentwood. Yes, that is statuatory rape, but I think the parents have to press charges, the police won't just arrest him.

if jamie lynn thinks this is the right decision for her, and her parents are ok with it [as they need to sign for her], then who are we to tell her how to live her life? i hope for the baby's sake that everything works itself out and that the baby, jamie lynn, and casey are all happy in the end..

Yes, but in this case the "parents" are children themselves. Sixteen is far too young to get married. Assuming that Jamie's mother doesn't want to raise this child, has adoption been ruled out?

I think we should all just leave them alone! No wonder people are divorcing and going crazy in the Hollywood world. Its because everyone else (i.e people like tv guide who spread rumors from aparent 'inside sources',) is trying to run their lives for them! If Jamie Lynn were just your neighbor, you wouldn't care as much. Just treat her like you would a neighbor, not like she's a famous actress/singer.
