Jamie Lynn Passes in GED 101
Jamie Lynn Spears by Albert L. Ortega/ WireImage.com
Jamie Lynn Spears has been doing more than Lamaze classes since returning home to Louisiana. The 16-year-old little sib of Britney has been studying up and passed her GED.
Following a brief spell in the spotlight after her pregnancy was announced, a source reveals that the Zoey 101 star passed the GED about a month ago, and is likely moving on to the ACT test for college applications. The source told media, "She's not wasting any time. People don't know her. When she gets something in her head, she'll make it happen. Everybody is so supportive of her."
Given the stark contrast between the two Spears daughters' lives, do you think Jamie Lynn's learning some lessons from her big sis? Or is she just more grounded to begin with? — Anna Dimond

Maybe.. or maybe her mom didn't ruin her like she did Britney.

If you are aiming at going to college, why would you want to get a GED?
Although I'm someone amused at the fact that she wants to take the ACT over the SAT (ACT is a more difficult test).

I don't see anything wrong with her wanting out of high school earlier so taking the GED would be the best option. Also not all colleges require the SAT. Some you have to have the ACT for and I believe the ACT is easier to take. I took it for college and as far as I know, when I took it anyways, there was no writing portion to it.

Zinger, she's taking the ACT because here in the South, that's what everyone takes and what most Southern schools require. The only time Southern students take the SAT is if they're applying to a Northern school. And I definitely wouldn't characterize the ACT as more difficult. Otherwise, schools like Harvard, Yale, Columbia, and Duke wouldn't require the SAT (which they do).

Zinger, getting a GED isn't actually as bad as it may seem. For example, in Ohio, there's a lot of rural area schools that rate under academic emergency or academic watch. In these cases, getting a GED is a lot more telling of your ability as a student because the exam is a lot harder than any exam you'll take in that school. I have friends that have taken that option.

Hmm. I guess I learn something new every day.
Still, she's Jaime-Lynn Spears. She could probably get into any college she wants.

HollyKelsey, I'm not sure when you went to college, but that's not true. I was born and raised in the South and went to college down there, and all the Southern colleges I applied to required both the SAT and the ACT.

As a teacher in KY, I actually was under the impression (in Kentucky anyway) that a student could not begin the process to obtain a GED until their high school class had graduated. I'm sure the process varies from state to state though. In addition, the ACT is the only test that is offered in Kentucky public schools (at least the schools that I am familiar with). To take the SAT students typically have to go to college rather than taking the test in their public school. In fact, this year all KY high school juniors are required to take the ACT as part of the annual testing.

Most schools (even the Ivy leauges) require an ACT or SAT (I'm in admissions, so I know) north or south doesn't really matter. Some may require a SAT subject test, but that is about it. One test isn't harder than the other, they just test different things. Glad she is keeping grounded and stay on track to complete her goals.

Ummm, she would take the GED if she wanted to go to college sooner rather than waiting until she is done with high school.
I took both the ACT and SAT a little over a year ago, and I can tell you that the SAT is much harder. None of the schools I applied to required one test over the other; you had to have one or both. A lot of places offer one test more than the other, so a lot of colleges don't weigh one test over the other. I'm from NJ and they only give the ACT around once a month and only in very few locations, whereas we took SAT prep in school and had it administered in our school. It is the opposite for a lot of mid-western and southern schools. It it probably much easier for Jaime to find an ACT to take, just as it was much easier for me to find an SAT.

i live in louisiana and i am a high school student and the most common test for us to take in la is the ACT that is what every school in la requires in some way shape or form.....so it is not suprising at all that she is taking the act. especially if she plans on going to LSU
