James Gandolfini's going from the mob life to the soul scene in Sexual Healing, an indie pic that will explore the latter part of singer Marvin Gaye's life. The former Soprano will costar alongside Jesse L. Martin, who will play the legendary crooner.

Gandolfini's company, Attaboy Films, is producing the project. The screenplay is loosely adapted from the book Trouble Man, which chronicles Gaye's life from when he left Motown records through his European self-exile and relationship with promoter Freddy Cousaert (Gandolfini), who was key to the singer's most popular album, Midnight Love.

The announcement comes just days after Gandolfini won a SAG award as Best Male Actor in a Drama Series for his role on The Sopranos. — Anna Dimond

I've been a loyal Law & Order fan from the very first season. I've watched every episode and those of the other two L&O spin-offs. I'm terribly disappointed that Jesse is leaving. I am ecstatic that he is being cast as my all time favorite singer, Marvin Gaye. I said it the first time I saw him as Det. Green and have been screaming it from the mountaintops. After seeing him in the movie version of "Rent" and finding out he could sing, I've been waiting for this moment. I can't wait for "Sexual Healing".

I'd like to add, if L&O wants to have another season, they really need to come up with a better replacement than Anthony Anderson. No offense to him but after his performance as Stabler,s temp partner on L&O:SVU, I don't think he's what L&O is looking for.

Congrat's to Jesse L. Martin can't wait to see him on the big screen.

A True Fan,

I so look forward to this film, I remember seeing Jesse L. Martin on a talk show years ago discussing this as
a major project he wanted to do. As a longtime fan of his work, not just on Law and Order but Rent and other projects, I'm thrilled that it will become a reality
