Isaiah Washington: Grey's "Fired the Wrong Guy"
Isaiah Washington by Bob D'Amico/ABC
This story has more wrinkles than Abe Vigoda. In a candid interview with the Houston Chronicle, Isaiah Washington says, "They fired the wrong guy," positing that contrary to popular belief, the anti-gay slur he spewed during the infamous on-set row with Patrick Dempsey was not aimed squarely at T.R. Knight, though the now-out Grey's Anatomy cast member has said that it was. "That's a lie," Washington says, suggesting that Knight was the one responsible for creating a negative workplace environment, and used the incident as leverage for increases in pay and amount of screen time.
As first hinted in TVGuide.com's Ausiello Report, Washington confirms he is pondering a lawsuit against ABC, saying, "My livelihood, my honor, my dignity and my name have been so challenged." He then cops to making three errors in judgment: "Believing the cast... were like family; believing I had the freedom to express myself with family and that we could resolve our issues; and trusting ABC was going to take care of me."
Matt here. At this point, I believe closure to this saga can only truly be offered by Patrick Dempsey, who was directly involved in the original heated exchange. But, as it may turn out, I suppose that is what subpoenas are for.

Isaiah is really making himself look bad now. If TR had called him the N word, he had would have been fired right away. He called TR the F word twice. It's unacceptable and he got what he deserved. Now he's upset because he got fired and he's trying to spin it to make himself look better. Too little too late. TR tried to stay out of the spotlight and avoided talking about the "incident" until it was unavoidable. Isaiah lied about it repeatedly. Pathetic.

Isaiah, you were the complete IDIOT who said the infamous F word ON THE GOLDEN GLOBES SEEN BY MILLIONS AND MILLIONS OF PEOPLE! If you hadn't of done that, things may had quieted down LONG ago, your beloved reputation may have been not as bad off and you wouldn't look like a complete moron as we speak! Take Katherine Hiegl's advice and DON'T TALK! Desperation doesn't become you...

Isaiah really should fire his mgmt b/c the more they let him speak to the press or anyone else for that matter, the more he hurts his career. He now looks like a big trouble maker and no one is going to want them on their set / show to cause additional trouble and scandal.
Personally, I'm really glad that he's off GA now b/c anytime I see him, I thing of what an a** he is and therefore can not distinguish him from the character. It ruins the show / storyline and its completely all HIS fault. If he had just shut up after the incidence, it would have gone away.

The sense I've gotten from the reports I've read about the original dispute and the fallout has been that the Gray's cast has been behind Knight pretty much all the way. I don't recall anyone from the cast speaking out against Knight the way Katherine Heigl spoke out against Washington. IF, as Washington is now claiming, KNIGHT was the one making the work place uncomfortable, I'd think we'd have heard from someone else by now.

Matt, love your writing! No need for Patrick Dempsey and the original incident, the Golden Globes debacle proves that! Think he's REALLY going to go through with the suit??? Not me...

"Washington says, suggesting that Knight was the one responsible for creating a negative workplace environment, and used the incident as leverage for pay and screen time increases"
Yes, because calling someone a fa**ot will get you that screen time, huh?
If everything that happened was such a lie, then why did he listen to certain people to try and clear his name when he cslled TR out his name, when he said (at the Golden Globes) he didn't call TR a fa**ot, when TR said he did, when he admitted that he did, when he did a rehab stint (it works just ask Mel Gibson, it leaves you a little bitter) and the PSA's? All of this could've been avoided if he had just said from the beginning "Look, I said some things that I should've said and I'm sorry", not "It's TR's fault that the word came out of my mouth." You don't listen to other people if your reputation is being tarnished. How big is that hole Isaiah? Too little, too late.
Man, what a way to start off the morning huh? I hate to say it, but I miss the Paris Hilton reports.

Even if this was the case, what was he doing using that word anyway? Especially in the presence of T.R.? The word is wrong, just like the N word is wrong. Doesn't matter who you say it to or why.

I do feel as though the cast left him high and dry and doing so is what has led to Isiah's self-destructive behavior. The cast should've tried to defuse this whole thing in the press instead of hiding.

Obviously Isaiah hasn't learned anything from all this. Is he serious? Hasn't he learned that by not keeping his mouth shut has gotten him into trouble? He is digging his own grave here.
And what is he thinking by saying that his unacceptable words and slurs don't have anything to do with TR?

JFame, hate to disagree with you, but obviously that self destructive behavior was always there. Ellen Pompeo has been recently interviewed about this, and she is relieved that he's gone! It's a much happier workplace without him! And the fact that he re-used that F Word on the Golden Globes in front of MILLIONS proves that his behavior has always been this way. We kind of saw that when he was quoted as saying if he knew that he would be fired anyway he wouldn't have taken any of the steps to better himself!

Isaiah Washington is delusional. He's also compared himself to Malcolm X recently :
"Maybe for 50 years and the history of media and television I represent something that's supposed to not exist. This happened to Malcolm X, this happened to Paul Robeson -- this misconception can happen to any man of power that loves himself and wants to spread that love and that humanity throughout the world."
