Inside Britney's VMAs Blunder: Reports Blame Rushed Rehearsals, Margaritas
Britney Spears by Kevin Mazur/WireImage.com
What's the real story behind Britney's unfortunate "Oops!" at Sunday's VMAs? (Watch video here.) As sources weigh in, a recurring theme suggests that a last-minute change in plans — perhaps not at all helped by frozen margaritas — led to the pop tart's onstage bewilderment. TV's Extra, for one, hears that a more elaborate number orchestrated by illusionist Criss Angel was pared down just before the show got under way. It would not have been an entirely insurmountable hurdle if Spears had hit rehearsals hard. Instead, a source tells the New York Daily News, "She showed up three and a half hours late, and she walked in with a frozen margarita. It was so disrespectful." Not just to MTV suits and her fans, but to her fellow dancers as well. "The dance number was spectacular — without her," a spy tells the New York Post. "Then Britney showed up and refused to do anything. The more complicated moves had to be erased."
Wardrobe-wise, Spears has taken hits for underdressing, a questionable choice made by herself when she deemed a corset designed to go with the sparkly bra and bottoms "not sexy enough," says the Post.
Is this Britney's worst year ever? Opportunistic VH1 answers that question with a (preplanned) special that airs Tuesday night.
UPDATE: In honor of Ms. Spears' "return," TVGuide.com has given its Britney page a glam makeover (albeit sans holey fishnets). Check it out!

If this turns out to be true, it's ever the more disappointing to think about what might have been had she taken it seriously. She failed to act like a professional, and sure enough, she looked like an amateur on that stage. Sad.

I feel so sorry for her. Yes, she may be destroying herself with her partying but there is no one around her that isn't making money off of her. I really hope someone will help her get help before she completely destroys herself.

She hasn't acted professionally in anything she's done for a couple of years now. Can she please just go away.

I think MTV should have cut her when they saw the lousy rehearsals and what she placed importance on (partying rather than practicing).
I'm sure Kanye would have been happy to open the show for Brit.

Poor Poor Britney. She just doesn't get it; partying hard is NOT going to make her a smart chic (girlfriend, wife, mother) but rather a woman heading down a spiral staircase that leads to ??? (a pit, the bottom, HELL, fill in the blanks). So sad that she doesn't "GET IT."

The VMA's just showed everyone, how badly Britney really is doing. And yes, someone around her SHOULD try doing more to help her, but if the almighty dollar is more important, they won't. If she can't get it together for a live show, what's going on elsewhere? Maybe someone's keeping better watch over her boys.

I can't believe MTV would even let her perform considering the state she has been in. That being said, she does obviously need help and needs to get away from the people surrounding her right now. Obviously no one has her best interests at heart and will do anything to exploit her. How do we even know these stories are true? It seems to be the "in" thing to do- talk crap about Britney. No matter how you look at it though, SHE is the one that needs to realize she needs help. Otherwise it will never work. I really do wish her the best though. Even though she may have brought this on herself, I think combinations of other things drove her to the edge. I can't wish bad things on her when it is obviously a mental issue.

Inasmuch as everyone is going on about how someone should help her... if she does not want the help & if she does not want to change, all attempts would be futile anyway. Rumors have had it in the past that her family has tried to intervene and she has pushed them away. Like they say, someone has to admit they have a problem and want to get help before a change will happen!

Whew! I thought it was just me that thought she was wandering around the stage looking confused! She's very pretty, but she should have worn more clothes to avoid the jiggling parts.

I hope this doesn't end up as some tragic Smith or Monroe story. She is a train wreck heading for disaster. It's so frustrating to watch her escapades on TV. It makes me very sad. I have a daughter close to her age and you can't tell me that if my daughter was on a train ride to hell that I wouldn't through myself in front of the train, grab her up by her nappy head and send her butt back to Louisiana with her family that loves her. I'd cancel all contracts and tell all the leeches to hit the high road, no more feeding off my daughter. I would lock her up, if I had to. She is a danger to herself, her kids and the whole world. It just makes me sick that we have to watch her just commit suicide, right before our eyes. She trying to be something she will never be, GOD BRITNEY GIVE IT UP, IT'S NOT MICKY MOUSE ANYMORE, SO HOME TO YOUR BOYS AND GET THEM STRAIGHT BEFORE THEY TURN OUT LIKE KID ROCK OR WORSE. HOW DO YOU THINK THEY PICTURE THEIR MOTHER??? A SLUTTY, WHORE FOR THE WORLD TO SEE. Please get a grip and let your family help you.

diane1027- I stated that as well. Britney is the one at this point that needs to help Britney. However, I don't think that means that those who really care about her should just back off. They need to keep doing everything they can to help her realize. Sooner or later, she will hit that absolute rock bottom. Let's just hope it's not too late for that.

MTV knew they were putting a train wreck on their show. We all knew it was going to be a disaster.
If there is a God in heaven, then maybe one person close to her will take her aside and help guide her in the right direction.
or she'll end up in the ground next to Anna Nicole Smith or Dana Plato.

Britney is an adult and should start taking responsibility for all of the horrendous decisions she has been making lately. You can only blame 'those around her' for so long until the blame goes back on to the person committing such idiotic mistakes.
She looked absolutely confused during the dance routine. "Diva" attitude or not, you gotta practice.
