Idol Producers Band Together to Find Out What's Next

Perhaps sensing that American Idol has peaked (thanks a lot, Sanjaya), the reality juggernaut's producers have come up with a new show, titled The Next Great American Band, which seeks to discover not merely the heirs apparent to Madonna and Michael Jackson but tomorrow's Heart and Journey. The battle begins with a two-hour episode on Oct. 19 (and will air every Friday thereafter). Brooke Band, get your audition song ready, 'cause they're finally ready for you!

Ironic timing reading this when, while deciding which new Fall shows to watch, I just today decided I wasn't going to watch next season's American Idol. It was not even a difficult decision and I've watched every season since S2. Just not interested anymore. I can keep up easily just visiting this site and will possibly catch a performance or two once the season is well under way, but the show's become so bloated with unnecessary filler that I just can't be bothered.

Oh, and I'm sure this new show will be just as bad, so I'll stick with "Rock Star" which hopefully will be coming back.

I have to go with Rock Star too! I don't need to go through an "IDOL" like search - just get me to the talented musicians and let them perform!

I could not agree with the two of you more! This summer hasn't been the same without Rock Star! Although it was never a ratings smash, it certainly did a lot better than what Mark Burnett has been doing this summer with On the Lot and Pirate Master. Does anyone know if Rock Star is officially dead?

I found the following blurb about Rockstar on Wikipedia, not the most reliable source, but still.

"In the final episode, auditions were announced for season three, however CBS announced in May, 2007, that the series would not be renewed for a third season, due to CBS's debut of yet another new Burnett series, Pirate Master, as a replacement."

There was a letter writing campaign that was trying to get the show renewed, but i don't have any info on that or if it's still going on or not.
