Is Hulk's Edward Norton Being an Incredible Pain?

Word is spreading that Edward Norton is threatening not to promote The Incredible Hulk when its June 13 premiere nears, due to the fact that he is unhappy with the final cut. (To name but one similar past squabble, Norton famously warred with director Tony Kaye over the edit of American History X.)

While distributor Universal Pictures has no comment on the alleged friction between the actor and Marvel Studios, Norton's rep tells the New York Post, "Edward was brought on... as a producer, screenwriter and actor, so it shouldn't surprise anyone that he has a lot of creative input. His deal was for [three Hulk films], and he takes those roles seriously."

Please don't make Edward angry. You wouldn't like him when he's angry.

Tony Kaye now regrets his behavior over American History X. So I doubt that Norton was the cause of the problem in that case. Also, at the time, he had little political sway as he was just coming on to the scene.

Anyway, based on the trailer, this movie doesn't look very good. Once again, they've made a mistake in making the Hulk and the Abomination look like digital animation. And I didn't see much in the way of action, which was the major complaint of the first film.

No Hulk dogs, at least.

OK, so that is the Abomination? My boys will be thrilled. (Jacob is a huge fan, no pun intended.) — MWM

I liked the first Hulk movie. I always thought that the I.H. saga was really more drama/tragedy than action anyway.

I was thinking Norton was being somewhat childish, until I read he was also producer and screenwriter along with the acting. Anyone who has taken on all those positions with a movie should have a say in the final cut.

It is the Abomination because his name is Emil Blonsky before the transformation, just like in the comics. But they won't be calling him that in the movie (they didn't like the name). Those lamoids! :)

It's not a sequel. It's a new take, a reboot of the potential franchise.

Interesting...It's too bad they're already having to reboot it! Maybe they'll get it right this time, but it seems like the last one was an expensive mistake when it didn't need to be.

Let's face it: Bill Bixby, rest his soul, nailed it. And Lou Ferrigno WAS the Hulk. They got the soul of it, and even with the inferior production technology of the time, it still visually did more than anything since. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, I say. But what do I know. I'm only the one (not) buying the movie tickets.

Dr. J: you hit the nail on the head. Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno were the best. That's how I feel about Robert Urich in Spenser: For Hire. Joe Montegna ruined that role for me. Ugh.

Now I'm bummed. I hated, detested LOATHED the other version (which I like to pretend was a dream and never happened) because it deviated from what made the Hulk, well, the Hulk. And casting Jennifer what'sherface? Ugh. She's so one dimensional and every single character that she portrays is one that is constantly depressed. But, I digress.

I saw the trailer and it looked like this one is sticking to the true mythology, but I agree--the BEST was the one on CBS with Bixby and Ferrigno. Don't understand why they couldn't use Ferrigno again for the major motion picture.

Darn. Now I'm going to have to wait to see if anyone else sees it and get their take on it, as I'm such a purist when it comes to my Marvel and DC Comics characters.
