Zack & Cody Spin-off Is Afloat — Minus Tisdale

'Member when Laverne and Shirley moved to Hollywood? (I'll allow you a moment for some groans....) Well, Disney Channel is similarly giving one of its biggest shows, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, a new setting. To begin production once the WGA strike (imminently!) wraps up, The Suite Life on Deck will find the twin brothers, as well as hotel heiress London, enrolled in a semester-at-sea program. Alas, just as Carmine, Lenny and Squiggy inexplicably tagged along, look for Mr. Moseby to also board the cruise ship and keep a pesky eye on the kiddies.

Not sticking around for the spin-off is High School Musical's Ashley Tisdale, though a Disney rep tells the Reporter it's possible that she could make recurring appearances.

It's the Pacific Princess for the kid set! I am sure I will be seeing some of it because I have a 7 year old & a 9 year old. I wouldn't choose to watch most of the Disney Channel on my own, but the shows are harmless & targeted to that age group. When I was their age, I was watching soap operas with my mom. lol

Anyone else smell a 30-minute Disney Cruiseline ad? Not to knock their cruises - I've been on one sans kids and it was great.

What about their mom? Or will she stay on land?

I get so sick of Disney's programming - not because the shows aren't enjoyable, they are, the first time around, but because they are on every night and they rerun the same episodes and my kids don't care if they've already seen an episode ten times! On the other hand, I'd rather my kids watch Zach and Cody over and over than some of the alternatives!

Spin off's can be substandard but I think this one shows great potential. The cruise ship environment invites opportunity for various ports of call in different countries and cultures. The writing is great, and the comedy is wholesome, slap-stick family fun. I think Disney could surprise everyone with this one! The viewers may even learn something while watching. It's not unusual for Disney to combine great entertainement with some education.
